About this Meal Train
Thank you for your interest in serving food to our inner city teens in Garfield at our weekly youth group night called, "Breakout." It starts at 7 pm, but the church is open after 6:30 pm for you to set up and get ready to serve the food. We call our youth center "The Urban Underground" and it is a sectioned off part of the old St. Lawrence O'Toole Church which is now the Penn Campus of St. Maria Goretti Church. The address is 5323 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224. There's parking behind the church off Penn Ave. We use the side entrance of the church - you'll see signs pointing to the entrance of the Urban Underground.
We will have drinks, plates, napkins, and plasticware for the meal. We don't have an oven or kitchen facilities. We will also have ziploc bags and aluminum foil to help wrap leftovers that can be given away at the end of the night.
Desserts are a huge plus but not necessary. You can arrive anytime after 6:30 pm to get set up and we usually serve food till 7:30 pm when we start the night with some games. You are welcome to stay for as much of the night as you want.
These nights are outreach nights - our missionaries are intentionally seeking out those who are unchurched. Thanks for being the face and hands of Christ by helping us feed these teens. Don't be offended if some of the kids don't care for a particular food or recipe - there can sometimes be great cultural differences in what they are used to eating.
Foods our teens will eat:
Chicken Tenders/Nuggets with Sauces (BBQ, Hot Sauce, etc)
Burgers (there's a grill available to use at the church if needed)
Pulled Pork or BBQ with Sauce
Breakfast for Dinner
The teens we work with generally don't eat pasta, fried chicken, chili, salad
