September Meal Train!

Posted 08/12/2019 by A Place For You Pine City

Hello, hello! Where is summer going? It's hard to believe that the days are getting shorter; and with the weather being cooler and cloudier, it appears Mother Nature is starting to make her way into fall. PLEASE NOTE that the DINNER TIME has been revised to anytime between 5:00 and 5:30 PM. This gives a better leeway for the busy schedules you have. If you're not sure what meal to create, September is National: Chicken Month, Rice Month, Potato Month, and Biscuit Month! Special "food" days are National Chocolate Milkshake Day on the 12 and International Chocolate Day on the 13. The 13th was also the day in 1813 that Uncle Sam's image was first used to symbolize our wonderful country. (I smell hot dogs, apple pie, and lemonade)! The meals have been wonderful! Remember that they do not have to be "fancy". If you find providing a meal for 10 is a bit overwhelming, partner up with someone. Share in the bounty of your gardens or in making a trip to the grocery store! The staff and residents at A Place for You sincerely appreciate the time, creativity, and support given in providing a meal for our residents. Your generosity is a big factor in keeping our shelter sustainable and in serving the needs of those much less fortunate than us. Have a great week!

August Meal Train openings

Posted 08/08/2019 by A Place For You Pine City

Good morning, We still have many opening dates for the August meals. Can you provide a meal? Remember that it can be a simple meal and dessert is not required. You can also find a friend and prepare the meal together and have it to the shelter by 5:00. If this is a difficult dinner hour (especially for those of you who work until 4:30 or 5:00) , you can always drop it off earlier in the day or the evening before. The shelter has crock pots, a microwave, fry pans so it can be reheated. We do not have an oven. THANK YOU for being part of our train. We just heard from a resident how grateful she is that meals are brought it as she cannot afford to buy food for her meals. BLESSINGS!

JULY MEAL TRAIN

Posted 06/19/2019 by A Place For You Pine City

Hello!! July is approaching...wow! We can't say we've been loving our spring weather, but with summer arriving on Friday (at least according to the calendar), let's hope Friday really does bring on summer! July's calendar is up and running. You know the routine of how this train works. This is a great opportunity to try out that new recipe; enjoy looking at others' ideas for a summer meal, too! And if you don't have the time to cook a meal, we have a grill at the shelter in which the guys can use! Maybe you can supply the meat and leave the rest of the cooking to the residents! Please note that there are presently no residents with food allergies. As always, staff and residents appreciate the meals that we receive. A meal made with the working hands of excellent cooks is never taken for granted. Enjoy the sunshine, water, and those families and friends that surround you during this month with get togethers, reunions, and celebrating our independence. God Bless America and you!

JUNE Meal Train openings

Posted 06/15/2019 by A Place For You Pine City

Good morning, June continues to be showing us true signs of spring/summer with the sunshine, beautiful rain, and green grass, not to mention graduation Open Houses! We like it! Although this is a very busy month for so many families, we are seeking out dinners for the 8 June openings we have on our meal calendar. Please consider filling in a date. Remember that it does not have to be a fancy meal and that you can partner up with someone too! We sincerely appreciate your consideration. Also, remembering things can be a challenge with everyone's "full plates". With that being said, we have had a couple meals not delivered on dates in which people have signed up. If you have an emergency and cannot prepare the meal for the day, please contact the shelter at 320-438-7070 so the staff is aware of your conflict. We totally understand that "life happens". THANK YOU, as always, for supporting the shelter. Have a great day!

NOVEMBER MEAL TRAIN

Posted 10/19/2018 by A Place For You Pine City

Hello, fellow cookers and bakers! Next month's Meal Train is up and running already. Where has the month of October gone? Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to slow time down? As a sincere reminder, wiithout each and every one of you, our shelter could not continue to serve its residents and meet our mission, purpose, and vision. Because you provide a necessary evening meal, our residents have learned how to appreciate people who support them and realize that there is so much goodness in people. Many residents had not had a home cooked meal for years before arriving here (yes, years), and do not take you for granted. You have taught them a valuable life lesson while they enjoy good nutrition! Thank you so much, especially in this month of gratitude, from the staff at APFY and residents. We appreciate your goodness, time, and gift of cooking that you share with residents who are less fortunate than we are. A very Blessed Thanksgiving to each and every one you! A Place for You

Fall "officially" starts in a couple days so we can look forward to that wonderful time to appreciate the beauty of the leaves and the bounties of our gardens. Good morning this mid-November day! As usual, the days seem to be flying by. Speaking of flying...the weatherman says we are going to have wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour today. Be sure to wrap up (have lots of dressing, hehe) if and when you venture out. The Meal Train is ready until the end of the 2017 calendar year! This is a time of year that time really goes into high gear with the last of fall harvesting and entering the holiday season. We hope that you can find the time to share your talents in preparing a meal for our residents at the shelter. You do not know how much they appreciate the meals that are made (with love!) for them. Please share in your bounty with the wonderful foods harvested and consider putting together a meal. We at APFY are deeply grateful to you in continuing to support the shelter. We are 5 years strong (as of November 4th) and know it has taken all of you that are dedicated in preparing and delivering meals, to share in the success of the shelter. For this we send out our gratitude and blessings from our home to yours. Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving!

NOVEMBER Meal Train

Posted 10/18/2017 by A Place For You Pine City

Hello, fellow cookers and bakers! Next month's Meal Train is up and running already. Where has the month of October gone? Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to slow time down? As we just celebrated our 4th annual Giving Gala last Friday to raise funds for the shelter's continued sustainability, we cannot ignore how vital you, the Meal Train members, have been to us. Without each and every one of you, our shelter could not continue to serve its residents and meet our mission, purpose, and vision. Thank you so much, especially in this month of gratitude, from the staff at APFY and its residents. We appreciate your goodness, time, and gift of cooking that you share with residents who are less fortunate than we are. A very Blessed Thanksgiving to each and every one you! A Place for You

OCTOBER Meal Train

Posted 09/19/2017 by A Place For You Pine City

Hello to all! We hope that you have had a wonderful September so far; it's hard to believe that over half of it is over and that fall "officially" starts in a couple days! What a wonderful time to appreciate the beauty of the leaves and the bounties of our gardens. Scurrying in the kitchen canning your "goods" is another part of fall, isn't it? Although it's a lot of work, one can reap the benefits during the winter months. OCTOBER is full of fun facts too (not to be outdone by any other month!) ~~more US presidents were born this month than any other month ~~And October is: Domestic Violence, National Cholesterol, International Walk to School, Pizza, Popcorn, Pork, and Sausage month Check this month's calendar for a day that works for you. As always, THANK YOU for supporting the shelter in the form of Meal Train. We appreciate you providing your talents and time to make the residents' tummies satisfied!

SEPTEMBER MEAL TRAIN

Posted 08/18/2017 by A Place For You Pine City

Hello, hello! Where is summer going? It's hard to believe that the days are getting shorter; and with the weather being cooler and cloudier, it appears that fall is coming, coming, coming! Since September is around the corner, this means that the Meal Train calendar for the month is ready. If you're not sure what meal to create, September is National Chicken Month, National Rice Month, National Potato Month, and National Biscuit Month!

Most importantly, we continue to thank YOU, the many "cookers" who faithfully provide meals to the APFY residents. We would not be able to meet our mission if it wasn't for you! God bless!

Stop by the shelter at any time to get them. The office is manned 24/7 so someone is always there to help you. THANK YOU, in advance, for your generosity in time, creation, and delivery of your meal. The residents continue to appreciate your giving!

Meals for January

Posted 01/08/2016 by A Place For You Pine City

Happy New Year to all of you! We have many openings for this month for the Meal Train. I know some of you may be "snowbirds" and will not be able to deliver a meal from the "South", and APFY thanks you many times over for your support. If you are in the area and can find one of the available dates to provide a meal to the residents, it'd be appreciated. Today, (January 8) is filled, but other dates are open. Please consider sharing a meal. The residents make MANY comments regarding how much the meals are appreciated and enjoy each one of them. Some have even tried and LIKED some of the different foods that they've never been introduced to! Have a great day and weekend and stay warm!!! Please cheer on the Vikings although you may not be a true fan of them on a regular basis! :) A Place for You staff

JANUARY MEAL TRAIN

Posted 12/20/2015 by A Place For You Pine City

First of all, a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your families. APFY is truly blessed and appreciative of the support we have had from all of you in providing a meal for our residents. This is an especially tough time of year for our residents and your wonderful meals you have contributed at this time is most sincerely appreciated from them, also. The January menu is up and running for you. Some "fun facts" about January: 2---National Cream Puff Day (do you know how to make cream puffs?) 8--Elvis "the King" was born. 19--Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 24--Irish Coffee Day 28--National Blueberry Pancake Day Please note that we currently have a resident that is allergic to red and green peppers, mushrooms, and lobster. Again, thank you for supporting the shelter. We recently celebrated our 2nd anniversary of being in operation and without the support and help from you, this would not be possible. If you know of any other cooks that may be interested in helping out our residents by providing a meal, please give me his or her name and I will contact them. Finally, if you know of anyone that loves to drive and not necessarily cook, would you let the shelter know. The number is 320- 438 7070. We are in need of having a bit bigger pool of drivers for those residents who need a ride to work. It involves an hour or less of your time. THANK YOU!

October Meal Train

Posted 09/30/2015 by A Place For You Pine City

Hello, cookers, bakers, and supporters of A Place for You! Did you know that October is (get ready for these): National Cookie Month, Chili Month, Pizza Month, Dessert Month, Popcorn Poppin' Month, AND Seafood Month? And with that said, the October Meal Train is ready to be filled in with your meal ideas. Know that the shelter, residents, staff, and board members of A Place for You sincerely appreciate your time, talent, and desire to provide a meal. And did you know: * October 1, 1896 the first free rural delivery in the US was started (how about all foods grown locally for a meal idea?) * October 3, 1974 Frank Robinson was hired by the Cleveland Indians as baseball's first African American Major League Manager. (a baseball menu?) * October 9, 1940 John Lennon was born in Liverpool (perhaps a British twist to your meal?) * October 11, 1884 Eleanor Roosevelt was born (Be the First Lady in your kitchen!) *October 31, 1941 Mt. Rushmore was completed after 14 years of work (HMMMMMM?) THANK YOU, in advance, for helping to complete our Meal Train. May you have a wonderful month of October. Please "treat" our residents with your "tricks" in the kitchen!

September Meals

Posted 09/02/2015 by A Place For You Pine City

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful meals. We have been busy at the shelter with some people moving out and others moving in. Our September calendar is up and ready for you to sign up and bring meals. We have a lot of open days so anything you can do will be much appreciated. If you are planning something that needs buns please call and ask if we have enough. Our freezer has a lot of hot dog and hamburger buns in it that we need to use. We also have a lot of black beans so if you have a great recipe that uses black beans we can provide the black beans. Thanks for all you do. Our success is possible because of the generosity of people like you. Sincerely Linda Cassman

September Meal Train

Posted 08/17/2015 by A Place For You Pine City

Hello, hello! Where is summer going? It's hard to believe that the days are getting shorter and the weather is supposedly going to be getting cooler! With September around the corner, this means that the Meal Train calendar for the month is ready. If you're not sure what meal to create, September is National Chicken Month, National Rice Month, National Potato Month, and National Biscuit Month! The staff at A Place for You sincerely appreciates the time, creativity, and support given in providing a meal for our residents. The meals have been wonderful! Remember that they do not have to be "fancy". If you find providing a meal for 10 is a bit overwhelming, partner up with someone. Share in the bounty of your gardens or in making a trip to the grocery store! Have a great week!

We need your delicious meals

Posted 06/08/2015 by A Place For You Pine City

Help, please! We have very few meals promised for the next two weeks here at the Shelter and we have a full house. Please consider providing a meal one of these next few days. Part of the meal could be something that the residents could grill - they've gotten pretty good at grillin'. And it could be something light - salads are always good. We appreciate your ongoing "share" of a favorite recipe and meal. Thank you for all you do for our residents! The meal train crew :)

Mealtrain I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helps A Place For You by providing meals to our residents. Without your help we would not be able to provide such wonderful, hot meals. I realize with summer our calendars get full fast. Please continue to help out at you can. Vanessa is no longer working here and we are trying to learn all the ins and outs of the mealtrain. While we wish Vanessa well, we also have a large void to fill. Please be patient with us. Our calendar for June is open and available. Please feel free to sign up for days and times that work best for you. Have a Great Day Linda Cassman Executive Director A Place For You
