Updates For Future Donations

Posted Apr 21, 2020 by Riley Hartwell of Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter

Dear Meal Train Donors, We understand these are challenging times for everyone, and we at the Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter, cannot thank you enough for your kindness and support. We have had some issues with dinner donations not being provided as scheduled, so to prevent this, we would like to contact you personally to provide a reminder. We would appreciate that you please email Elsa (egreenfield@waymakersoc.org) or Riley (rhartwell@waymakersoc.org) upon volunteering for a meal, to provide us with a contact # and what meal you are planning to bring. We will be confirming meals one week in advance, so we are able have the weekly menu posted, in compliance with our Licensing requirements. While we miss sharing a home cooked meal together, due to the regulations created in response to Covid-19 we wanted to remind you that we are, by law, only allowed to accept donations that have been prepared by a restaurant. Thank you again for your participation generosity during these difficult times. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Shelter or email us.

Update on Food Handling Restrictions

Posted Mar 26, 2020 by Lorena M. Ortega

Good afternoon, beautiful souls! I want to let you all know about a very important update that has been handed down by state officials regarding the foods we are able to provide for the Huntington Beach Youth Shelter: Per directives handed down this morning by the state of California, the HBYS is no longer able to take in foods that are prepared in a resident's home. They are only able to accept meals that have been prepared by restaurants or grocery stores (like rotisserie chicken, for example) that come sealed from the food handler. When speaking with Elsa Greenfield this afternoon, she advised me that meal trays that only require popping into the oven are also alternative acceptable meals. (Lasagna, spaghetti, mashed potatoes, pre-cooked meats, etc.) Although this affects only a small percentage of those who have already registered, I wanted to get this information posted as an update to the site. Thank you so much for your understanding. Enjoy the rest of your day, Lorena M. Ortega PS. If this update changes the ability of your family to fulfill your evening contribution, we ask that you please let us know so that we may free up your evening to provide the opportunity for it to be filled by another member of the community.

WOW, WOW, WOW!

Posted Mar 26, 2020 by Lorena M. Ortega

A huge thank you for those of you who have signed up to deliver meals to the shelter, those who have donated to have meals ordered, and those who have shared the meal train. These are beautiful gestures by a community who always knows how to take care of each other. The first goal of getting next week covered has been met, thank you! If you are able to, please continue to share this meal train link on your social media platforms. Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter does so much to support local area youth who are in crisis and need to take emergency shelter. They do great work and all of your donations alleviate a huge burden for the limited staff. Wishing your families, friends, and our community much love and peace. In solidarity, Lorena M. Ortega
