About this Meal Train Plus page
**Notice for COVID-19: All HALO Meal Train volunteers should ensure they are healthy and symptom-free at the time of meal preparation and drop-off. For information on symptoms to watch for, please visit the CDC's website on COVID-19. Any volunteer coming to HALO to drop off must wear a mask while in the HALO Learning Center. We work with an extremely vulnerable population; please help us protect them by social distancing, avoiding contact with others that could result in the spread of COVID-19, using gloves and a mask when possible, and washing your hands frequently if you plan to contribute a meal. The health and safety of our kiddos is HALO's top priority as we navigate these uncertain times. Please help us ensure we are prepared by providing disposable dishes and utensils where possible. Any bottled water donation will be very appreciated. Please contact Alayna Howard at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or concerns.**
HALO provides housing, healing, and education to homeless and at-risk children all over the world. In Kansas City, Mo., HALO serves over 700 youth every year in the HALO Learning Center, where youth get support and learn the skills necessary to break the cycle of homelessness. By providing therapeutic art programming, life skill workshops, professional development and more, HALO staff build the foundation of a family for children who need it most. Because our youth are coming through our doors from unstable living situations, food is always on their minds and in high demand. HALO partners with emergency shelters, other transitional housing programs, alternative high schools, and more, and even our partner agencies have been asking for help with meeting this basic need due to capacity or funding. Our youth also have families that are going hungry, are unable to get to food pantries, or have other circumstances that keep them at "not enough." Oftentimes, our youth work to help feed their siblings or families, while also going to high school, getting good grades, and just trying to be a kid. At HALO, we have committed to always being a source of support and comfort for our youth, and that now includes this basic need. We want any child that comes through our doors to have access to a warm meal or snack in order to create an environment where hunger is not a barrier to learning a life skill or interacting with others. By providing a meal to our youth, you are providing love and support to youth who need it most.
