Dear Kyler, I’m so incredibly saddened and sorry for your loss. I knew Jamie from grad school, where I remember him as equal parts hard working and hilarious. After graduate school, when I quit my postdoc and went on to intern at a science magazine, he’d send me nice messages about the articles I was writing. Unbeknownst to him, his encouraging messages gave me a mental boost while I struggled with what the heck to do after graduating. He was equally kind and supportive when we kept in touch over the years since—offering encouragement and a job offer after I’d quit an exhausting job during COVID, then continued cheering on my career and life milestones. My family and I are sending you and yours our deepest condolences and love ❤️
