Posted Mar 22, 2020 by Christina Leoni-Osion

Thank you all for your generosity! We are excited to have our first drop-off day at Stoplight Gelato Cafe tomorrow from 1-3 pm. We did some shopping today to get the remaining things we needed for the 100 family food and supply packets we will be distributing! Shout out to Amy Wentz for helping us shop today in her local 8th District grocery!

Jackson Ward eatery, Stoplight Gelato Cafe, joins Gilpin Court mutual aid effort led by The Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team as a donation drop-off location every Monday and Thursday from 1 pm-3 pm. The Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team is excited to be partnering with Stoplight Gelato Cafe, a beloved, local Jackson Ward business, as a drop-off point for folks to continue to donate supplies and non-perishable food to our mutual aid efforts in support of Gilpin Court families. We will be accepting donations every Monday and Thursday from 1 pm-3 pm outside of the storefront located at 405 Brook Rd, Richmond, VA, 23220. The Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team needs your continued support to help bridge food access gaps for students and families living in Gilpin Court. Thank you to all those that are rallying behind The Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team Meal Train and our mutual aid collection efforts. Our youth leaders have been and will continue to be active and consulted in every decision and effort! In response to social distancing guidelines and CDC advisements, we will no longer be accepting homemade/family-style meals. We have collaborated with Gilpin residents to generate a list of food and household needs and will be using the funds we raise to ensure access to emergency relief, supplies that cannot be bought with food stamps, and shelf-stable food. Our goal is to put together family-sized bags of shelf-stable dinner food and cleaning supplies for 100 Gilpin families every Monday and Thursday to bridge the access gap of dinner and weekend meals. Below is a list of needs that we are still collecting: ** indicates a high priority - Bleach** - Gloves (disposable and dish gloves)** - Spray Bottles** - Paper towels** - Boxes to distribute food - Oodles of Noodles - Peanut Butter - Jelly - Bread - Dish Soap - Crackers - Bottled Water - Canned Tuna - Canned Soup - Trash bags - Bananas - Apples - Carrots - Onions - Potatoes - Cabbage - Broth (of all kinds) - Juice - Pedialyte - OTC Medicine Please only drop off during the specified days/hour and contact Christina if you cannot make the above time-slots and want to donate. Thank you all, and please continue to spread the word, The Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team, Stoplight Gelato Cafe, & Friends

THANK YOU ALL SO SO MUCH, WE ARE NOW ONLY ACCEPTING PACKED, SHELF STABLE FOOD!

Posted Mar 18, 2020 by Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team

Greetings to our generous community, Thank you for rallying behind The Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team! In response to social distancing guidelines and CDC advisements, we will no longer be accepting homemade/family-style meals. We have been in touch with Gilpin Families as to their needs and will be using the funds we raised for emergency relief, supplies that cannot be bought with food stamps, and shelf-stable food. Thank you to everyone that pushed RPS to broaden their school lunch distribution to Carver Elementary and to the mobile site in Gilpin. We were there helping with distribution this morning and while many meals were given out it is not at this time enough for every child in that neighborhood, so please keep leaning on them to boost their distribution efforts and bring more food directly into communities. Below is a list of needs that we are still collecting: - Bleach (this is a very high priority right now!) - Gloves - Spray Bottles - Oodles of Noodles - Peanut Butter - Jelly - Bread - Dish Soap - Crackers - Bottled Water - Canned Tuna - Canned Soup - Trash bags - Bananas - Fruit - Juice - OTC Medicine Thank you all, and please continue to spread the word, The Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team Crew

COVID-19 Preparation

Posted Mar 12, 2020 by Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team

We are currently raising funds/food for young folks within and outside of our Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team, so any and all food items (fresh or shelf) would be wonderful as there will be a high need if (and when) RPS closes and over Spring Break. ALL FUNDS will go directly to the Gilpin Community. Thank you all for your support and mutual aid. Please contact Christina at youth@rpec.org with any questions.
