New Meal Train for the 2019-2020 School Year

Posted 08/27/2019 by Erica Hopman

Good Morning! It's hard to believe but summer is ending and fall is is just around the corner! We are looking forward to the start of fall programs and with that comes the renewed need for baking and meals. Please take a look at our meal train and help where you are able. I have updated instructions and amounts needed, so please take a minute to read through the meal train, even if you've been been a part of cooking here for the past few years :). We couldn't run the programs that we do without the many hard working volunteers like you. Thank-you for your ongoing willingness to help with our programs. Also, if you are able to share this meal train on other social media or email platforms with those you know, it would really help to have more willing volunteers for cooking and baking. We are thankful for all the help we receive and are excited to jump back into four fall programming. If you have any questions, please let me know. New Year, New meals needed :)

Posted 01/07/2019 by Erica Hopman

Good Morning and Happy New Year! I hope that you enjoyed a wonderful and blessed Christmas. I feel like the kids have headed back onto the bus and it's back to routine. I will once again start remembering what day of the week it is. :) As we start a new year we are also in need of filling in meal volunteer dates. I hope as you settle into routine as well that you may be able to find some dates that work for you in the calendar to bake or come in to cook a meal. I feel confident in speaking for our many youth, volunteers and myself when I say what a blessing your help has been . Thank you so much for those of you that have helped to date! My goal is to see this schedule covered up until March break. Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks :) Erica Hopman Children's Program Coordinator Youth Impact Centre 215 Chestnut St. Dunnville, ON N1A 2H3 905.920.2798 www.youthimpactcentre.com

More meal volunteers needed

Posted 09/17/2018 by Erica Hopman

Hi there, We are just two weeks away from beginning our after school programs! I am very thankful for everyone who has signed up so far to help with meals and baking. This truly is an integral part of our After School Programs and something the kids really look forward to. At this time I'd like to invite you to see if there is an upcoming date when you can help with baking or making a meal. Before our October 2nd start date, I would love to see our 2018 meal needs covered. I know this is a big ask, but I also know that many hands make light work. :) A couple of specific ways that you can help include: 1) Sharing this email. More volunteers will help to spread the workload. 2) Planning a meal making event with a group of friends or family (you can use our kitchen at the Centre for cooking as a group either during the day or evening). An example of this is a bible study group planning a cooking morning together. Contact me if you'd like to do this. We have lots of freezer space at the Centre! My hope is to visit our area schools next week to personally invite close to 400 grade 5-8 kids to the Centre. They don't all come ;), but we never know how many kids we will be blessed with once group begins. Please join me in this awesome community outreach by showing love through cooking. Updated Meal Train for Fall Programming

Posted 08/28/2018 by Erica Hopman

Good Morning! Summer is slowly slipping away and we are gearing up for fall programming here at the Centre. I have updated our meal train to reflect our needs for After School Programs. Please know how valuable your help has been in meeting these needs. I would encourage you to sign up where you can. Throughout this past year, I have personally witnessed the joy that those who have been to the Centre to cook or help have experienced. I would really encourage you, if you are able, to come in to cook for one of our groups. You will experience first hand what the Centre is all about. The Centre is also available for groups to come in and have a cooking day or evening to freeze in meals. Please contact me if this is something you'd like to arrange. Thank you so much for your ongoing support. Because of volunteers like you, we were able to feed kids home cooked meals and baking over 33 weeks this past year. That's just awesome! Lets do it again! Please connect with me if you have any questions. Updated Summer Meal Train- baking needed

Posted 06/15/2018 by Erica Hopman

Good Evening! We are headed into the final weeks of school and summer is just around the corner. At the Centre, that means that after school groups have wrapped up and we are in a small break before summer programs begin. This summer we will be in need of different items as we embark on a Family Brunch Program and afternoon programming. Your help is needed with baking. This is something that can be done quite simply in the comfort of your home and dropped off at your convenience. The impact that it has on our programs however, is huge! Please take a moment to sign up where you are able and help us to make our summer programs a success. Thank you for your continued support! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Meals needed to finish up the year

Posted 03/26/2018 by Erica Hopman

Good Morning! Thank you so much for generously donating your time and cooking/baking abilities this year. What a blessing this has been for our after school program! We are currently in the final stretch of our program with group wrapping up at the end of May. With that in mind, we are looking to fill up the remaining dates for our meal train. If you are able, could you browse through upcoming dates and volunteer if you are able? Much thanks! Follow Up of new regulations for Meal Preparations

Posted 12/12/2017 by Erica Hopman

Good Morning! I realize that for those of you who may no longer be able to cook for the Centre, I have not given a clear instruction of how to cancel your meal. This can be done in two ways: 1) Go onto the meal train and cancel your meal by clicking the date you previously selected. OR 2) Email me (replies to this email will go directly to me) and let me know what date you will need to cancel. I will than cancel for you on the meal train. If you are able to continue to cook for us in an approved facility please leave the dates you have selected. Thanks so much! IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ - Changes to the Dunnville Youth Impact Centre Meal Train

Posted 12/11/2017 by Erica Hopman

Good Morning, We need to make some serious changes to our meal train due to Health Unit regulations for the Centre. We received a visit two weeks ago from a health unit inspector who has made a decision that all meals served at the Centre MUST be cooked in an approved facility. What does this mean for us? The good- Baking is still ok! If you want to bake mounds of treats in the comfort of your own kitchen to deliver, that is totally fine. Again, they must be peanut free. The bad- Home cooked meals will no longer be permitted. All meals must be store bought or cooked in an approved facility. Some approved facilities that we are aware of at this time are: The Centre, Maplecreek Church, Grace URC and Dunnville Christian School. There may be others; you just need to ask the facility you would like to use if they are certified by the Health Unit. The hopeful – Our meal train does not need to stop! As much as this decision was hard to hear, we understand the Health Unit is there for our community’s safety. We also understand what a blessing this meal program has been for our centre kids! So please join us in being creative! Options for you to keep your spot on the meal train include: 1) Coming to the Centre on a Tuesday to prepare the meal. I am there from 9:30am on. There are also other days during the week that could work. Just call the office to confirm a time with Bonnie or Mary-Jo @ (905) 774-6233. 2) Preparing the meal in another approved facility. Plan a morning with some friends to cook! We have a large freezer to keep these meals until the date needed. 3) Buying a pre-made meal from the store or a local restaurant. These are all approved. Please connect with me if none of these options will work for you. I understand that the ability to go somewhere to cook is not always feasible. Thank you so much for your support of these kids and our program. It means so much to us!
