I remember Rick as someone who worked hard and cared about the students. We both suffered from frequent migraines and often went to one another’s classrooms (mine was the band room) for Excedrin Migraine, Imitrex, etc. I love reading about what he was like as a husband and father. Obviously someone who was good at everything he did! My condolences to the family. What a huge loss. ❤️

Dear Karden Family. My heart goes out to you all. Having lost my husband when my kids were in high school and a freshman in college - the most important thing I learned was to stay close and to talk to each other. Grieve together but talk about the things you loved or even didn’t love about him. Watch for signs - a song, a saying, a dragonfly - he will send them to let you all know he is still with you. He will be with you as you accomplish things in your life - do the things that he will be proud of.

We just saw Mr. Karden a few weeks ago when he stopped by our house with his daughter to pick up a ping pong table topper. He had taught both our kids years ago and it was nice to see him again and to meet his daughter, who was just lovely and who was celebrating her birthday that day. I'm at a total loss for words.. I can't believe he's gone. He was a mentor and idol I'm gonna miss talking about nerd stuff and fishing with him. He's one of the biggest reasons that I've made it in my life helped me through my loneliness and my depression in high school and gave me a safe place to be who I was and gave me a community. He achieved and his short of life what most never could.
