Being Back!

Posted Apr 14, 2022 by Nichole Taylor

Friends and Family, I wanted to check in and give you an update on things. Jacob has been home for almost two weeks now. He has enjoyed being back in school and spending time with his siblings, cousins and best friend. He currently has a sprained ankle from a fall he had. He will be starting his PT and OT and low vision therapies here soon. For those of you who are football fans, Jacob has been invited to be a part of Good Morning Football on the NFL network tomorrow morning at 8:15am (yes, on Good Friday!) Anyone who knows Jacob, knows he loves football and especially his Packers. Please check it out if you can. It's a way to support St. Jude and share awareness. Thank you all for everything you do and have done. We appreciate you greatly. Nichole and Family P.S. I really wanted to share this picture of Jacob and his brother when he first got home. Also, keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks again!

He made it through! Coming home now.

Posted Mar 30, 2022 by Nichole Taylor

Good Morning Friends and Family, Jacob is heading home today. Monday he had final scans of his brain and spine and everything looked clear. Yesterday he had a long appointment with the eye clinic, as many of you are aware, the tumor did do some damage to his vision. They will continue to monitor it. We want to take the time to thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers, letters, gifts and meals for the family. All of your support made going through this difficult time easier, the power of community support is amazing. Jacob is excited to be back home with family and friends and is ready to get back to school. Thank you all again so much. You are our heroes ❤️ Nichole and Family

Last inpatient round

Posted Mar 4, 2022 by Nichole Taylor

Happy March Friends and Family, Today is the last day for Jacobs inpatient round of chemo. After this he will continue therapies and close monitoring by the doctors. After 3 weeks he will have scans of his brain and spine and if all is clear and no complications have taken place then, we should be good to go home at the end of this month! Yay! Because so far Jacob has done well with his treatments, he finished much sooner than expected. Let's hope this last month continues to be uneventful so he can get back home to family and friends and normal life! Jacob has been such a brave and positive kid during this whole process... surgeries, treatment and all. Thank you all for your support. We ask that you continue to keep us, especially Jacob in your thoughts and prayers. Nichole

Thank you for your thoughts and kind words

Posted Feb 22, 2022 by Nichole Taylor

Friends and Family, Chemo has not been easy but, Jacob continues to handle it all with the best attitude possible. He wanted me to thank you all for your letters and cards. We appreciate you keeping him in your heart and thoughts and taking the time to write him such thoughtful messages. Even letters from the new friends he's made at Starbuck Middle and Ascension Medical in Franklin surprised him and had him geeked the entire day. Jacob can't wait to get back home, but in the meantime these letters remind him that he has so much to look forward to when he gets back. The countdown continues. 😉 Thank you all again Nichole

2nd Round

Posted Jan 19, 2022 by Nichole Taylor

Hi Family and Friends, Jacob is on his 2nd round of chemotherapy. He is handling things as best as he can. Today we are working to keep him distracted from the discomfort of constant severe nausea. Sometimes he just cries because nothing relieves it. The last few weeks he has handled bouts of vomiting and diarrhea that comes on without warning like a champ. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers as he gets through this treatment. We wish for the time here to fly by so he can be home and back to normal life. He was proud he completed a social studies project this past weekend. 😀 Thank you all for everything! Nichole

Day 1 Chemo

Posted Dec 28, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Hi Friends and Family, Jacob started day 1 of chemo today. This morning he was given lots of I.V. fluids to help with hydration and protect his kidneys. He's started some meds to help prevent side effects of what's to come. He's had some short infusions of two chemo meds and has just started a 6 hour infusion of one. Right now he's zonked, but here's a picture when they started. As always thanks for your support. Nichole

We made it and whoa it's busy already!

Posted Dec 27, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Hi Friends and Family, We made it to Memphis around 7:30 last night. Today we started with appointments at 8am and we won't be done until 8:30 pm when Jacob will be admitted for inpatient chemotherapy. Jacob had a baseline screening of his hearing and speech, he's getting an mri of the brain and spine, an echocardiogram, a meeting with his neuro-oncology team and the nurse to go over all the side effect of chemo he might experience. It's a nervous time but we are thankful that St. Judes has lifted some covid restrictions and 2 sibling are allowed on campus. Julian and Jolie will be good company while Jacob is inpatient this first week. Keep Jacob in your thoughts and prayers, the oncologists are saying the 1st three weeks of chemo is the absolute hardest time. Thank you and we'll keep you posted. Nichole and family

Last Day of Radiation!

Posted Nov 24, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Hi Friends and Family, Jacob has completed his last day of Radiation! He handled it like a champ! He gets to come home for the holidays then off again to start months of chemo. I want to thank you all for your support. We still have a journey to go and you all continue to uplift us during this journey. I want to give a special thanks to Officer Matt K. and Team and to Ms. Pod and the Starbuck family. You have relieved us of alot of stress this Thanksgiving. We are on the road now and the drive from Racine to Memphis is about 9 hours, so 18+ hours to get to him and get back to family and friends, he is so excited though. Thank you all again, just know your kindness and thoughtfulness fill our spirits each and everyday. Our gratitude is immense. We wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving! Nichole and Family

Thank You for a Fun Weekend

Posted Nov 7, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Friends and Family, This weekend we were able to be together as a family here in Memphis. It's been almost 2 months since Jake has seen his brother and sister and me my other loves. We cannot thank you all enough for helping make that happen. We went to the zoo, the Memphis Children's Museum and a night time carriage ride through downtown Memphis. Thank you all so much for being there for us. It's really keeping us going! Jacob continues to do well with radiation and will be working with a low vision specialist and a seeing eye stick to keep him safe with the challenges of his new vision. Thank you all again! Hi Friends We have lots of busy days here at St. Judes. Lots of appointments in preparation for Jacobs treatments. Jacob did well with his radiation simulation tests last week and tomorrow he will have a port inplanted for easier lab draws and medication. Next week actual radiation starts! We're hanging in there. I once again would like to thank all of you for your support. Donations and meals have been a godsend for our family during this time. Thank you a million times over! Nichole and Family

Back at it!

Posted Sep 28, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Jacob was released from the hospital yesterday and went straight back to appointments. They hope to remove his stitches Thursday or Friday so he can get a mold of his head created which is needed to perform his radiation therapy. The radiation mask takes about a week to make and he should be starting radiation therapy the following week from there. Radiation will be everyday for 7 weeks! Let's keep Jacob strong with positive thoughts and prayers. I again can not thank everyone enough for the meals and donations. It is making such a huge difference in making life easier for our family during this challenging time. Nichole

We made it!

Posted Sep 22, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Hi Friends,, We arrived late last night here in Memphis. Today has been a very busy day for us here at St. Judes. After meeting the team I am re-assured that this is the best place for Jacobs care. The doctors were very knowledgeable and thorough. His primary Oncologist specifically specializes in Jacobs rare type of brain cancer and to boot her and her husband have a special lab in the facility where they just study and do research on this type of tumor when they aren't in clinic or treatments. They believe that the tumor has caused permanent damage to his vision, but on a good note he starts Physical and Occupational therapy this week. 😉 We are looking at a very long road ahead of us. They expect Jacob to be here around 6-7 months for all the treatments needed to beat this thing. As always, you all have been beyond amazing and we can't say enough how much we appreciate you! ~Nichole

On our way to Memphis🤠

Posted Sep 21, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Jacob is on his way to Memphis with mom, dad, and his baby brother Jace to St. Judes to start his journey. We will be keeping people updated within the coming days as we learn more about St. Judes plan for treatment. I also want everyone to know that even though Jacob will be away the meals that are being so generously denoted will not go to waste. Jacob's brother and sister will be enjoying the meals and they will be a huge help to dad (who will be returning on Thursday) and other family helping with the kids during this difficult time. We can not thank you all enough for everything that you guys have done!! you guys are the real heros!!!❤

Update

Posted Sep 18, 2021 by Katie Cranley

Due to some paperwork delays with CHW, Jacob will not be leaving for St. Judes this weekend. Neurosurgery said he can come back to school next week half days. Children's should be getting everything over by early next week, so it may just be one week if that. But he gets a wee bit more time with us.

Update!

Posted Sep 15, 2021 by Katie Cranley

The St. Jude’s coordinator reached out to the family, and they are hoping to fly Jacob out there this weekend. The coordinator was honest and noted our friend will need to be there a few months for his treatment. Although Jacob and Mom will be out of town for a bit, Dad still appreciates these meals you all are bringing so very much as he is trying to navigate life with the other 3 kiddos on his own.

It’s a good news day!

Posted Sep 14, 2021 by Katie Cranley

Jacob has been discharged! He will have PT and OT at the children's clinic in Kenosha. Additionally, Mom received a call from one of the oncologists at St. Judes in Tennessee last night. They had received her 2nd opinion inquiry, and one of the oncologists at Children's MKE had already sent a tissue sample of Jacob’s tumor over to them. The folks over at St. Jude’s said that with Jacob’s rare form of cancer, they would love to be able to treat him there!! So he will get a short respite at home, then on to his next challenge.

Thank You, You Amazing Humans!!

Posted Sep 13, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Friends, This has been a very challenging time for Jacob and our family but, during this dark time, you amazing humans (angels in disguise) have brought light and hope into our family. The time taken to make meals, the thoughtfulness with donations has reminded me that despite what is happening with my 11 year old hero, the world isn't all bad and hard moments can be overcome. Seeing things like dough hearts on an amazing potpie makes a heart smile and tummies happy. Thank you all so much for everything! This thoughtfulness re-energizes the spirit to continue on with the good fight! Sincerely, Jacobs very thankful family 😊

2nd opinion

Posted Sep 13, 2021 by Katie Cranley

Mom will likely be taking our friend to St Judes in Memphis for a 2nd opinion as they specialize in Jacob’s type of cancer. If the two opinions align, awesome! If not, a third it will be. Whatever it takes to ensure Jacob has the best chance of getting through this and getting back on his feet! That is the most important factor right now above all else.

Friends 🥰

Posted Sep 12, 2021 by Katie Cranley

Jacob FINALLY got to visit with his bestie Payton!!! He has gone for a couple short walks with the nurses. He has been able to walk without support (while being closely spotted), but he says he feels unsteady. His vision is slowly deteriorating, even while on steroids to decrease the swelling in his brain. His doctor was super nice though and brought him a big screen TV, so he can still watch his movies and play some video games while stuck in that boring hospital bed.

It’s cancer :-(

Posted Sep 10, 2021 by Katie Cranley

His tumor results just came back. Anaplasticependymoa. He had brain cancer. He will be doing radiation therapy. They said the cancer is very, very aggressive and hides in cells, so they are doing radiation to get rid of any cancer cells they missed.

Update on Jacob!

Posted Sep 10, 2021 by Katie Cranley

:-( I can’t post a video update, but this is a screenshot of a video of Jacob following simple commands and trying to talk. Currently he can’t follow through with movements completely, but the effort is there! And although his words are quiet and garbled, you can hear some fluctuations that can help you decipher some words he is trying to communicate. :-)
