6 weeks of radiation to go!

Posted Oct 19, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Hi Friends, Last week Jacob completed his first week of radiation. He has 6 more weeks to go, then 4 months of chemo after. Overall, he is handling the radiation pretty well with just some minor complaints of nausea. Thank you all for everything you've done!

Hanging in there

Posted Oct 4, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Hi Friends We have lots of busy days here at St. Judes. Lots of appointments in preparation for Jacobs treatments. Jacob did well with his radiation simulation tests last week and tomorrow he will have a port inplanted for easier lab draws and medication. Next week actual radiation starts! We're hanging in there. I once again would like to thank all of you for your support. Donations and meals have been a godsend for our family during this time. Thank you a million times over! Nichole and Family

Back at it!

Posted Sep 28, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Jacob was released from the hospital yesterday and went straight back to appointments. They hope to remove his stitches Thursday or Friday so he can get a mold of his head created which is needed to perform his radiation therapy. The radiation mask takes about a week to make and he should be starting radiation therapy the following week from there. Radiation will be everyday for 7 weeks! Let's keep Jacob strong with positive thoughts and prayers. I again can not thank everyone enough for the meals and donations. It is making such a huge difference in making life easier for our family during this challenging time. Nichole

Vision update

Jacob had a full vision work up yesterday. The tumor did permanent damage to his vision that eyeglasses will not be able to correct.

We made it!

Hi Friends,, We arrived late last night here in Memphis. Today has been a very busy day for us here at St. Judes. After meeting the team I am re-assured that this is the best place for Jacobs care. The doctors were very knowledgeable and thorough. His primary Oncologist specifically specializes in Jacobs rare type of brain cancer and to boot her and her husband have a special lab in the facility where they just study and do research on this type of tumor when they aren't in clinic or treatments. They believe that the tumor has caused permanent damage to his vision, but on a good note he starts Physical and Occupational therapy this week. 😉 We are looking at a very long road ahead of us. They expect Jacob to be here around 6-7 months for all the treatments needed to beat this thing. As always, you all have been beyond amazing and we can't say enough how much we appreciate you! ~Nichole

On our way to Memphis🤠

Posted Sep 21, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Jacob is on his way to Memphis with mom, dad, and his baby brother Jace to St. Judes to start his journey. We will be keeping people updated within the coming days as we learn more about St. Judes plan for treatment. I also want everyone to know that even though Jacob will be away the meals that are being so generously denoted will not go to waste. Jacob's brother and sister will be enjoying the meals and they will be a huge help to dad (who will be returning on Thursday) and other family helping with the kids during this difficult time. We can not thank you all enough for everything that you guys have done!! you guys are the real heros!!!❤

Update

Posted Sep 18, 2021 by Katie Cranley

Due to some paperwork delays with CHW, Jacob will not be leaving for St. Judes this weekend. Neurosurgery said he can come back to school next week half days. Children's should be getting everything over by early next week, so it may just be one week if that. But he gets a wee bit more time with us.

Update!

The St. Jude’s coordinator reached out to the family, and they are hoping to fly Jacob out there this weekend. The coordinator was honest and noted our friend will need to be there a few months for his treatment. Although Jacob and Mom will be out of town for a bit, Dad still appreciates these meals you all are bringing so very much as he is trying to navigate life with the other 3 kiddos on his own.

It’s a good news day!

Jacob has been discharged! He will have PT and OT at the children's clinic in Kenosha. Additionally, Mom received a call from one of the oncologists at St. Judes in Tennessee last night. They had received her 2nd opinion inquiry, and one of the oncologists at Children's MKE had already sent a tissue sample of Jacob’s tumor over to them. The folks over at St. Jude’s said that with Jacob’s rare form of cancer, they would love to be able to treat him there!! So he will get a short respite at home, then on to his next challenge.

Thank You, You Amazing Humans!!

Posted Sep 13, 2021 by Nichole Taylor

Friends, This has been a very challenging time for Jacob and our family but, during this dark time, you amazing humans (angels in disguise) have brought light and hope into our family. The time taken to make meals, the thoughtfulness with donations has reminded me that despite what is happening with my 11 year old hero, the world isn't all bad and hard moments can be overcome. Seeing things like dough hearts on an amazing potpie makes a heart smile and tummies happy. Thank you all so much for everything! This thoughtfulness re-energizes the spirit to continue on with the good fight! Sincerely, Jacobs very thankful family 😊

2nd opinion

Posted Sep 13, 2021 by Katie Cranley

Mom will likely be taking our friend to St Judes in Memphis for a 2nd opinion as they specialize in Jacob’s type of cancer. If the two opinions align, awesome! If not, a third it will be. Whatever it takes to ensure Jacob has the best chance of getting through this and getting back on his feet! That is the most important factor right now above all else.

Jacob FINALLY got to visit with his bestie Payton!!! He has gone for a couple short walks with the nurses. He has been able to walk without support (while being closely spotted), but he says he feels unsteady. His vision is slowly deteriorating, even while on steroids to decrease the swelling in his brain. His doctor was super nice though and brought him a big screen TV, so he can still watch his movies and play some video games while stuck in that boring hospital bed.

Good news!! They are moving our friend out of ICU! This means his family can finally bring him over to the Ronald McDonald house, and he can visit with friends and siblings there. 🖤 He is able to communicate MUCH better too! And look at that lego build! Get it, Jacob!!!

It’s cancer :-(

Posted Sep 10, 2021 by Katie Cranley

His tumor results just came back. Anaplasticependymoa. He had brain cancer. He will be doing radiation therapy. They said the cancer is very, very aggressive and hides in cells, so they are doing radiation to get rid of any cancer cells they missed.

Update on Jacob!

Posted Sep 10, 2021 by Katie Cranley

:-( I can’t post a video update, but this is a screenshot of a video of Jacob following simple commands and trying to talk. Currently he can’t follow through with movements completely, but the effort is there! And although his words are quiet and garbled, you can hear some fluctuations that can help you decipher some words he is trying to communicate. :-)
