Meal Providers

Posted Dec 8, 2021 by Constance Melahoures

Dear Meal Providers, To those who have already provided meals, thank you! Currently, we are having 10-12 guests per night, so plan for 15, but check the website a couple of days before to check if that number has changed. Please remember to post on Meal train what you plan to serve a few days in advance, if possible. While the guests are grateful for any homecooked meals, a little variety would be much appreciated! If you are staying to serve and there is perishable food left over, please take it home as we have limited refrigerator space. Finally, check our website – Plymouth-taskforce-homeless.org for the Site Schedule. The church addresses are on the second page. And send us your telephone # if we don’t have it, in case we need to contact you. Again, the Taskforce thanks you for helping to keep our guests safe and well-fed! Peace, Connie

Calendar Posted

Posted Oct 26, 2021 by Constance Melahoures

Dear Meal Providers, The Overnights season will begin on November 28th. The calendar link for meal providers and chaperones has been uploaded. We will be returning to three church sites – First Baptist, St. Mary’s, and Christ Church. As soon as the site schedule with host locations has been formalized, it will be sent via a separate email along with the complete Meal Preparer Guidelines. Meal instructions are also posted on MealTrain under General Instructions. Due to the ongoing pandemic, certain additional safety guidelines will be implemented. Servers must be masked at all times, wash hands and don plastic gloves prior to serving. Meals will be served to the guests by the meal provider. Guests will not serve themselves. Meal providers will have a choice of preparing meals at home and bring in to warm up, if necessary, bring pre-packaged meals, or ordering from restaurants to have delivered. Meal providers will also have a choice of staying to serve or drop off food for the volunteer chaperones to serve. Meal providers should arrive by 5:30 PM and ready to serve at 6 PM. If you are not going to serve, you need to let us know in advance so that we can plan coverage. We require all volunteers, who plan to stay to serve, be vaccinated. Proof of vaccination may be texted to 508.367.0516. This includes children. So, if your child is not yet eligible, it is not possible for that child to participate. For further information or if there are questions, call Connie at 508.367.0516. Thanks in advance to all who have volunteered in the past and will do so again! Peace, Connie Melahoures PS When signing up to serve, please include your phone number in case we need to contact you.

Meal Providers

Posted Jan 22, 2021 by Constance Melahoures

Hi Folks, As you know, FBMS is providing another paid chaperone thus obviating the need for a volunteer. Some of our volunteer chaperones have signed up to come in for that two our block to help serve. However, I know some of you have been staying to serve and some simply have dropped off the meal to be served by the volunteer chaperone. If you are willing to stay to serve, please go to MealTrain and sign up in the chaperone spot if it is empty for the night you are planning the meal. If you can't stay, that's fine. I will contact others to fill in. Also, please try to bring the meal hot and ready to serve. We only have one small microwave and now that we are up to 27, it will be difficult to reheat. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Connie

Change in Overnights Program

Posted Jan 14, 2021 by Constance Melahoures

HI folks, First of all, let me again thank all of you who have volunteered to serve a meal during these difficult times. Due to the high number of homeless on the wait list, we have been authorized to rent 5more rooms, which means that our numbers for meals will increase from 22 to 27. This will begin this coming Thursday, Jan. 21st. A Taskforce person will still be there from 5:30 to 7:30 to hep serve the meal and to cleanup. If his proves to be a burden for anyone who has signed up for future meals, please let me know via email. Thanks again for you do. Happy New Year and stay safe. Peace, Connie

Hi Folks, Happy New Year to all! Thank you again to all those who have provided meals for Overnights guests so far! Just as a reminder - please try to have the meal delivered as close to 5:30 as possible, especially if it is a meal to be served hot. We only have one small microwave to reheat food. If the meal does not require reheating, you may drop it off earlier in the day. If you do drop off earlier let staff person know if it needs to be refrigerated (eg sandwiches, etc.). Remember to bring milk and drinks in cans. Thanks again! Peace, Connie

Thank You!

Posted Oct 23, 2020 by Constance Melahoures

Dear Friends, Thank you to those who have contributed money via Meal Train Plus, including the folks who chose to give anonymously! We reached our $10,000 goal which helped us to cover the cost of renting the motel this past spring. Due to Covid-19 and CDC guidelines, we will not be able to use the rotating church model as in the past. So, we are faced with renting the Pilgrim Sands for the 2020-21 sheltering season. In order to help cover the cost of renting, staffing and other operational needs, we have reset our goal to $20,000. We understand these are tough times in all ways for many, including financially. However, some of us may be in a position to give, so please consider a donation to the Taskforce, if you are able to help us reach our new goal. In appreciation, Connie Melahoures President

Overnights of Hospitality - 2020-21

Posted Oct 20, 2020 by Constance Melahoures

Dear Friends, We hope that all of you have been staying safe and healthy through these challenging times. Once again, thanks to all who provided meals for our homeless folk this past season and to all who helped us out while we were sheltering at the Sands. The Taskforce, in conjunction with Father Bill's/Mainspring, will be renting the Pilgrim Sands for this winter season. This will provide us with some challenges in the way meals are prepared and served. When details are worked out, we will send out an update. For now, know that we can only shelter up to 20 individuals per night, so we will need meals for up to 22 per night to include the staff. Peace and God Bless, Connie

Update Info for Meal Preparers/Chaperones

Posted Apr 4, 2020 by Constance Melahoures

Hi Folks, Meals will have to be prepared and packaged individually so that the folks can eat in their rooms. So consider this when you decide on your menu. The main room in which they would have been able to eat, is closed down. Packaged meals can be dropped off to the Main Office where the guests will come to pick them up. Soft drinks in cans will be needed. No liter bottles. They will access to coffee and water in their rooms. Currently, there are 15 guests. I will update as needed. Because there is no place for the guests to gather to eat or congregate, we will not be needing chaperones. This first week we will be working out any issues that should arise. Thanks! Stay safe. Peace, Connie

Dinners Needed for the Month of April

Posted Apr 4, 2020 by Constance Melahoures

Dear Friends, We have good news to report. With the strong possibility that we will be able to be re-imbursed by the federal and state Covid 19 funds and with the contribution of $7,500 from the Town of Plymouth, we are renting rooms at the Pilgrims Sands for those folks coming out of our shelter, on a trial basis, for the month of April, beginning tomorrow. As this pandemic evolves, we will reassess to see if we need to continue beyond April. What we need is for folks to volunteer to prepare a ready-to-serve dinner for approx. 20 folk and drop it off at the Pilgrim Sands by 6 PM. Breakfast and lunches are already covered. We are also looking for a chaperone for a 4-6 hour shift, beginning at 6 PM through 10 or 12 PM to be at the Pilgrim Sands to oversee the delivery of meals, serving of meals and provide some overall supervision. Please see our Facebook Page for a more detailed description. Again, thanks to all who prepared meals especially during these last few weeks. Stay safe. Peace, Connie

Important Message

Posted Mar 15, 2020 by Constance Melahoures

Dear Volunteers, The last three weeks of the Overnights of Hospitality will be at First Baptist Church, so the meal providers and chaperones who had signed up to serve at Christ Church, will, instead, go to First Baptist. A reminder to all volunteers to follow CDC guidelines, eg frequently washing hands with soap and water, avoid touching you face, etc., as much as is possible. Meal providers especially are reminded to wash hands. prior to putting on plastic gloves before prepping and serving the meal onsite. Please do not come to the shelter, if you are feeling sick and/or displaying symptoms or you have underlying conditions that may compromise your health. Let me know if this should be the case, so that we can find an alternate. The guests are being asked to wash their hands at the check-in point. At the shelter all surfaces, door knobs, etc are being washed down with disinfectant prior to their arrival. During these uncertain times, we appreciate your willingness to serve. At least for the next three weeks, our guests will have a safe place to go and food to eat. Any questions, please feel free to contact me. God bless and be safe. Connie

Just a few notes, please: Email me your phone number in case we need to contact you. Appreciation Party

Posted Apr 15, 2018 by Constance Melahoures

Hi All, We would like to thank everyone who helped make the Overnights of Hospitality (i.e. the "Plymouth Shelter") a great success this winter season! It is with great joy that we can say the shelter had minimal incidents. Because of the hard work of the staff, chaperones, and meal preparers that willingly volunteered their time to ensure that the shelter was open and without many problems, the Overnights of Hospitality had the best winter season with us since collaborating with FBMS. As a sign of our appreciation for all that you do, we would like to invite you all to join us in an Appreciation Party to celebrate the success of the Overnights of Hospitality! The event is to take place on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 12-2 pm. Please feel free to join us for a time of celebrating, enjoying food and good company, and sharing some of the adventurous experiences of working the shelter. There will be a raffle, goody bags, and more! Please feel free to contact Connie at conmel@aol.com to let us know if you will be joining in the festivities! If we could have a response by no later than the 27th of this month, it would be great for planning purposes. Peace, Connie

Food Warehouse

Posted Feb 7, 2018 by Constance Melahoures

Dear Meal Volunteers, We have been informed that the South Shore Community Action Council (SSCAC) food warehouse is willing to provide ingredients for our nightly dinners. There are two limitations: the food warehouse is only open Monday and Wednesday mornings so the "shoppers" would need to come during those days and times and Linda, the coordinator, would need to know how many meals that the food goes out provides. (She has to report it.) Examples of available food can include frozen meats and fish, all kinds of pasta, canned vegetables, canned soups and fruits, cereal, chips, snacks. If you choose to take advantage of this opportunity, please let me know when you are going to do this. The Taskforce will take care of reporting the number of guests fed. Peace, Connie

Statistics

Dear Taskforce Volunteers, Every year I compile a report which includes number of volunteers and the groups from which they come. If I don't have the information for you on file, would you please email me and tell me whether you represent a congregation, school group, scout troop, community organization or community at large. Also, it would be helpful to email your phone and physical address. Thanks for your service and time! Peace, Connie

Overnights News

Posted Feb 23, 2017 by Constance Melahoures

Hi Folks, For those of you who are volunteering, we have just 5 weeks left after this one. I sometimes get questions about which shelter is open. The remaining schedule is: Feb. 26-Mar.4 First Baptist Mar. 5-Mar.11 Christ Church Mar. 12- Mar. 18 - First Baptist Mar. 19-Mar. 25 Christ Church Mar. 25-Apr. 1 - First Baptist For future reference, in the general information section on Meal Train, there is a link to our home page which has the complete schedule. (www.plymouth-taskforce-homeless.org) As mentioned in a previous email, we have seen an increase to about 15-18 per night. Safe to plan for 20 to include the chaperones. The schedule is just about complete for the rest of the season. We do have 8 openings for chaperones and 1 more meal provider. We would appreciate it if you would email me (conmel@aol.com) your contact info - address, phone numbers. Sometimes, we may need to contact you, if you don't appear right away and we need to confirm that you are coming. I also like to know what congregation/community organization you are representing (for our data collection). Thanks for all you do to support our program! Connie Melahoures

Thank You!

Posted Apr 9, 2016 by Constance Melahoures

Dear Volunteers, On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank you for volunteering to provide a meal or to serve as a chaperone this past season for the Overnights of Hospitality! Without your support, the program could not exist, thus leaving people on the streets and hungry. We invite you to comment on your experiences. Again, that you. Sincerely, Connie Melahoures President Plymouth Taskforce to End Homelessness.
