Milk overflow! :)

Posted Apr 17, 2021 by Brooke Graham

Hello teams, Quick update- we currently have A LOT of milk at Shelter, so we're advising meal teams scheduled between 4/18 and 4/24 not to bring milk with their meal. If you've already purchase the milk- go ahead and bring it- we'll share with the men's shelter! As we wind down toward the end of the cold weather season, our needs continue to change. Thanks for being flexible!

Another numbers update

Posted Mar 26, 2021 by Brooke Graham

Hello all, Here's ANOTHER numbers update....our numbers have been tranding downward. This can likely be attributed somewhat to better weather and the nearing of the end of our cold-weather season. It's always a bit of a "dance" for me when lowering the number of servings...balancing the estimated number of guests we're serving, ensuring we always have enough food but not too much. With that said, let's adjust the total number of portions to 35. A more accurrate number may be 30-35. Thanks so much for your flexibility!

Reminder to bring paper products with your meal!

Posted Jan 19, 2021 by Brooke Graham

Good morning, Meal Teams! I want to extend heartfelt thanks for each and every meal you've provided so far this season. You all are so amazing and so appreciated! I also want to send a friendly reminder that with each meal, we also ask for the following: Besides the meal we ask you to bring: 2-3 gallons of milk 1 gallon juice/drink paper plates, cups (8-10oz), and bowls Desserts (optional) In particular, paper products have been a hot commodity this season! Being open all day has us using more paper products than ever. If you're able, please be sure to include whatever paper products are needed for the meal you bring. Let me know if you have any questions! -Brooke

Dessert Update

Posted Dec 15, 2020 by Brooke Graham

Hello Awesome Meal Teams! I want to send a quick update regarding desserts...personally, my favorite part of any meal :). While we have always relayed to you that providing a dessert with your meal is optional, we do want to share that December at St. John's always brings an over-abundance of sweet treats, so you are more than welcome to focus on your main and side dishes when providing a meal, but if providing a dessert brings you joy, you're also welcome to continue doing so. Thanks for all you do--we appreciate you so much!

A note about changing the serving number to 45...

Posted Dec 4, 2020 by Brooke Graham

Yes, we did make the decision to increase the number to 45 effective Monday, Dec 7, as noted in the previous update sent to meal teams this afternoon. Initially, we anticipated that the number would remain at 40 for the duration of the season, but in switching drop off locations, we see the need for those additional 5 meals. Because our COVID-adjusted building capacity at St. John’s Shelter is 43, we do not anticipate changing the serving number for this Meal Train again. I hope this doesn’t create difficulty for you as meal teams, and I apologize for any inconvenience. We have traditionally never had over 40 female guests per night, and this season is proving to be unlike any other. In addition, we know that many teams purchase their supplies in advance, and if you’re unable to adjust your serving size at this time- no worries. We always have leftovers onsite. We know that preparing a meal for our guests requires resources and planning, and we ask you flexibility and grace as we continue to navigate as best we can!

Major Update-affects all meal teams-please read

Posted Dec 4, 2020 by Brooke Graham

Hello Meal Teams, Before I share a big change/update regarding meals, I want to pause and thank you for what you are doing! You are consistently feeding well over 100 people every night! In just over one month, you have collectively provided nearly 3,000 hot meals to our homeless brothers and sisters at St. John’s Shelter and Baylake City Center. WOW!!! And thank you!! Now for the update. We have evaluated how things have gone over the last month and its impact on staff and volunteers. We have heard your input and decided to make a change. • The meal teams preparing for 75 will now deliver to the men’s location at Baylake City Center. Please adjust quantities to 80 people. • The meal teams preparing for 40 will now deliver to the women’s location at St. John’s Shelter. Please adjust quantities to 45 people. • Meal teams who sign up for both locations will follow the above notes so each location receives their correct quantities. This decision was made to more intuitively follow the natural numbers at our shelters. As our men’s location (Baylake) is currently and consistently serving 70+ men each night and our women’s location (St. John’s) is currently consistently serving 40+ women each evening. This change is effective beginning MONDAY, DECEMBER 7. If you have any questions, or if you’re like to discuss details, changes or accommodations needed for your group, don’t hesitate to reach out to me (Brooke) at bgraham@sjehs.org or 920-301-0909. Instructions for dropping off at St. John’s Shelter: Between 5:00 and 5:30pm.The street address is 411 St John Street, but please use our parking lot (accessible from the 400 block of S Jefferson Street. Park at the far end of the building near the dumpster, walk around the side of the building and turn right- you’ll see a white table to set your items on. Ring the doorbell at the kitchen door and ensure staff answers the door to receive your items. Instructions for dropping off at Baylake City Center: Between 5:00 and 5:30pm.The street address is 301 N Adams St. Drive past the building on N Adams toward the Schreiber building. Just before the intersection with Northland Ave, turn left into the loading dock area at the corner of the Baylake building. You will see two garage doors and one regular door at the loading dock. Call upstairs to the Shelter (920)-288-7217 to alert staff to meet you with carts to transport the food. You do not need to enter the building at all- staff will take care of this!

TURKEY!!!

Posted Nov 16, 2020 by Brooke Graham

Good evening, faithful volunteers! We are so excited to share that we are receiving a donation of 10 turkeys this Friday (Nov 20), and we need your help using them to feed our guests!!! We don't have room in our freezers for all 10 turkeys, so we're asking meal teams or potential meal teams if they want to claim a turkey or two and pick up same day. If interested, please email Brooke at bgraham@sjehs.org to reserve. SAME DAY PICK UP from St. John’s Shelter is required. No contact pick up available. I’m envisioning some amazing meals in store: turkey noodle soup, turkey alfredo, and all kinds of other turkey goodness!

Want to also SERVE your meal?

Posted Oct 30, 2020 by Brooke Graham

We are SO GLAD you've partnered with us in feeding our guests! THANK YOU! I left out an important side note in the main info area. If you're comfortable with a moderate level of contact, we invite you to also serve the meal you provide! Guests would be masked while coming through the serving line, but unmasked at their tables--which are more than 6 feet away from the serving area :). The default is to provide the meal only, but if you'd ALSO like to serve your meal, please email me (Brooke) at bgraham@sjehs.org or call me at 920-301-0909. The space is ideal for 2-4 servers.
