I lived on Mordecai Lincoln Road when Chris Matthews was a young boy and friend to my son. I remember his sweetness and how earnest he was as well. He listened to messages that spoke of a commitment to the greater good. I remember a tussle at his house when two other neighbors attacked my son in the basement of the Matthews home. Chris came to his aid and when I heard I tried to gather the parents at my house to talk about it with the children. Chris's dad showed up. I remember Chris sitting on the couch so attentive and willing to receive some guidance, but he was even then beyond his years. His dad went over to speak with the other parent, and he was very kind to her and returned. He then spoke to my son and Chris about what happened and that we are a community and need to look after each other and that is what makes a community great. The seeds of the man Chris Matthew became were sown in the care of his family. The person whom he became sparkled even then in his searching eyes.

Chris represented the best of what politics had to offer. He was a tireless worker not just for the Congressman but for his fellow community members who wanted to make a difference like he did.
