Pyrex and prayer

Posted Feb 16, 2022 by leah kolb

Hi friends - Meredith still has some food storage containers, from meals that were brought over the last several months. In case anyone would like theirs back - she will have them in a box on her front porch until the end of this month - MONDAY FEB. 28 - if you’d like your dish/container back - please pick up before Mon. Feb 28. After that, Meredith will consider them her own. :) Meredith is so thankful for all the meals. ♥️ How you can pray: 1. Pray for the boys! Each of them are processing differently, pray for Meredith to have wisdom to know how to respond to each of them. Pray for the boys hearts to be comforted and strengthened. 2. Pray for Meredith for all the daily decisions that she now has to make on her own. Pray for her hurting heart to be comforted. Thank you all for your love and care for the Clutterhams. ♥️

Hi friends - Joshua Clutterham is in heaven. He has WON because he has finished his battle SO WELL. He remained faithful to the end. He is no longer suffering but is enjoying HEAVEN! Ps. 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Because Joshua had placed his faith in Christ, scripture tells us that Jesus received him joyfully into the presence of the Savior! If you are reading this and you are unsure about your position after you die, please reach out to myself (Leah) or a trusted Christian friend to have an important conversation. The following is from a Spurgeon devotional, entitled Morning and Evening, from Jan. 18 (the day Joshua passed into eternity): "So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God," — Hebrews 4:9 How different will be the state of the believer in heaven from what it is here! Here he is born to toil and suffer weariness, but in the land of the immortal, fatigue is never known. Anxious to serve his Master, he finds his strength unequal to his zeal: his constant cry is, "Help me to serve Thee, O my God." If he be thoroughly active, he will have much labour; not too much for his will, but more than enough for his power, so that he will cry out, "I am not wearied of the labour, but I am wearied in it." Ah! Christian, the hot day of weariness lasts not for ever; the sun is nearing the horizon; it shall rise again with a brighter day than thou hast ever seen upon a land where they serve God day and night, and yet rest from their labours. Here, rest is but partial, there, it is perfect. Here, the Christian is always unsettled; he feels that he has not yet attained. There, all are at rest; they have attained the summit of the mountain; they have ascended to the bosom of their God. Higher they cannot go. Ah, toil-worn labourer, only think when thou shalt rest for ever! Canst thou conceive it? It is a rest eternal; a rest that "remaineth." Here, my best joys bear "mortal" on their brow; my fair flowers fade; my dainty cups are drained to dregs; my sweetest birds fall before Death's arrows; my most pleasant days are shadowed into nights; and the flood-tides of my bliss subside into ebbs of sorrow; but there, everything is immortal; the harp abides unrusted, the crown unwithered, the eye undimmed, the voice unfaltering, the heart unwavering, and the immortal being is wholly absorbed in infinite delight. Happy day! happy day! when mortality shall be swallowed up of life, and the Eternal Sabbath shall begin. Joshua’s Celebration of Life service will be on Saturday, February 5, 2022, more information to follow soon.

The Valley

Posted Jan 18, 2022 by leah kolb

Hi Praying Friends- Our dear friend Joshua Clutterham walking very near to the valley of the shadow of death. He is in tremendous pain, and they are balancing his pain with level of consciousness. He has been admitted to Evelyn’s house - which is a hospice facility: https://www.bjchospice.org/Evelyns-House How you can pray: 1. For Joshua to be at peace during his final time on earth. 2. For Meredith to be carried by the Lord through this dark time. 3. For wisdom for Meredith as she cares for the children and talks with them about the nearing end of their Abba’s life, and as they visit him for the last time. 4. For Joshua’s father, step-mother and other close family, as they walk this valley together, for them to have the strength to support each other. “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I WILL FEAR NO EVIL. For YOU ARE WITH ME, your rod and your staff - they comfort me. ♥️“ Psalm 23 can be such a comfort to grieving Christians, if you have never memorized it - here is a lovely a cappella song to help you memorize it (song starts at 1:14): https://youtu.be/t1oM--pZ_ww Thank you for interceding for the Clutterham’s during this difficult time.

Ways to Bless and an Update

Posted Jan 11, 2022 by leah kolb

Hi friends- I wanted to share 2 articles for you to read and consider how to bless Joshua and his family during this difficult time. 1. This is an article by John Piper: https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/how-can-i-serve-the-dying Please read it and consider sending verses and a personal note to encourage Joshua and Meredith (see contact info below). 2. This article is from a staff writer at Desiring God (John Piper's website). https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/sing-your-loved-ones-home If you are able to visit Joshua in person, consider singing a hymn or gospel song over him, to him or with him, if you are comfortable doing so. If you have tech ability and would want to send a recording or video, that's an idea as well. Singing or playing an instrument if you have the ability?! Just something to consider. 🙂 There's something special about hearing loved ones voices being raised in praise to our God! 3. Please send the Clutterhams any special memories/stories you would want to share about Joshua! They will be blessed to read them together as a family!! Please send pictures, notes, memories, etc. Please email to: meredithandjoshua@gmail.com ****************************************** Update: They have met with the hospice nurses several times, and the plan is still continue to monitor and treating his symptoms. They are enjoying having family around and feel blessed with all the time they can get. We are still praying for HEALING, if the Lord would will, but we are also praying THY WILL BE DONE. Please continue to lift up Meredith and Joshua to our Lord.

Home from hospital

Posted Jan 9, 2022 by leah kolb

Hi friends: Thank you for praying for the Clutterham Family, here is the latest news: Last week, Joshua was able to come home from the hospital. After many discussions and talking with many doctors, it was determined that there is no further medical treatment recommended/available for Joshua's cancer, due to the extent of the cancer and the many body systems the cancer is affecting. Joshua was discharged from the hospital under hospice care, which aims at supporting a patient's quality of life, when there is no medical treatment available. Clearly this was an excruciating decision for the family, and one that was not made lightly or without consult. A song that might be encouraging for friends to listen to, is "Find You Here" by Ellie Holcomb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94rRsRlYPrw As Christ followers, the Clutterhams are trusting the Lord to walk them through this dark valley. Questions you might be wondering: 1. How are they doing financially?? Joshua is going to continue his work from home with Brooks Bible College and Clayton Community Church, as long as he is able. They are doing "ok" financially for now, but the family does appreciate all of the gift cards and financial gifts they have received. There might be additional needs in the future, and I'll update if there is any change to that. If anyone would like to give to the family financially, I'll add their info below. 2. Are the meals still helpful? Yes, very. That is just one less thing for Meredith to have to think about. She will up date the calendar for meals as she sees fit. 3. Are they still homeschooling? Yes, and it's going fine, with the support and help of family and friends. 4. Do they have family here? They do not have family that live near them, but they have had rotating family visiting. 5.How can we pray for them?? Pray for Joshua to have relief from the pain. Pray for him to be able to enjoy his time with family. Pray for healing. Pray for Joshua to trust the Lord with his life and health. Pray for Meredith as she watches her husband suffer. Pray for Meredith as she homeschools the boys and maintains their household. Pray for Meredith to have grace to walk through these dark days, and the days ahead. Pray for Meredith as she interacts with her family and friends. Just as you don't know what to "say" to Meredith, she doesn't always know what to say either. Meredith greatly appreciates all the loving words, scripture, texts/FB messages - keep those coming!! :) Pray for the friends and family of the Clutterhams to have seasoned speech, and to be able to wisely and lovingly have conversations with the family. Pray for the Clutterham boys, as their hearts/minds can't possibly wrap around these difficult days. Each of the boys is processing this news differently, so they are probably not open to direct questions from well meaning friends/family. They are open to hugs, kind words, scripture, notes of encouragement, etc. Consider praying Phillippians 1:18-26 over Joshua and his family: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWPcrJsbb8U&list=PL1YbRGxik6KfjUAtIeumnl_k3lz4cl-g1&index=4 If you'd like to give to the family financially, you can PM me for their address to mail a check, or use: Venmo: @Meredith-Clutterham (last 4 of phone 1118) Email for gift card delivery: mgclutterham@gmail.com Email for PayPal: Booklady.meredith@gmail.com Thank you for giving and praying.

Still in the hospital

Posted Jan 1, 2022 by leah kolb

Hi friends - Joshua remains in the hospital for several reasons, pain being one, along with concerning blood levels. Meredith is allowed to be with him, but the hospital does have a “one visitor” policy. 😓 They still have family in town to help with the boys. Dates have been added to the meal train this week for dinners, that would be a blessing to the family. Please continue to pray for the whole Clutterham family. Please pray for Joshua to deal with the pain, and for his medical team to have wisdom on how to proceed. Pray for sustaining strength for Meredith, the boys and their extended family. They don’t have any specific needs right now, but gift cards are always a blessing for meals out/gas/household needs, etc. Here is their info: Venmo: @Meredith-Clutterham Email for gift cards: mgclutterham@gmail.com PayPal: Booklady.meredith@gmail.com Thank you for praying and giving!! ♥️

Severe pain

Posted Dec 28, 2021 by leah kolb

Hi friends - Joshua has experienced agonizing pain the last 2 days, so after talking with his doctors they admitted him to the hospital today for pain management. Meredith is going to stay with him in the hospital, and they have family visiting from out of town to stay with the boys at home. The hospital will be able to give Joshua more pain medicine intravenously. Please pray for him to be able to rest, as he has had little to no sleep for several days due to the pain. Please pray for sustaining strength for Meredith, as this is desperately hard to go through. This is a very difficult time for their family, thank you for the meal support and texts/calls, Meredith will respond as she is able. Thank you for your prayers, may the Lord sustain our friends during these dark hours. ♥️

A New Direction

Posted Dec 15, 2021 by leah kolb

Hi friends- Joshua and Meredith met with their doctors today, and they have decided that the clinical trial is not working, so they are stopping the trial. The next step is taking an oral chemotherapy drug, Tazemetastat, which is the FDA approved targeted drug for Epithelioid Sarcoma. He will start that this week. He is still experiencing a lot of pain. Would you please pray for his pain to be diminished?? Another prayer request is for Joshua and Meredith to be able to take a small “stay-cation” this week. They have childcare arranged by family. Would you please pray that they are able to get away for a few days?? The Clutterhams are so grateful for everyone’s love and support! All of their Amazon presents are wrapped and ready for them. ♥️

Headed home after a hospital stay

Posted Dec 11, 2021 by leah kolb

Hi friends: Joshua and Meredith have spent the last few days in the hospital (including spending some time in the hospital hallways due to tornadoes in the STL area!!) due to Joshua having a pleural effusion. He was medically attended to for it, and they are headed home tonight. Aside from the pleural effusion, he is dealing with a great deal of pain. Would you please pray for Joshua’s pain and rest? Please pray for his pain to be managed at home, please pray for Meredith as she cares for him and please pray for the boys as their family goes through this dark time. Thank you for praying and giving ♥️

Joshua is greatly struggling with pain and subsequently sleep, and it’s difficult on the whole family. Meals are a way to practically come along to help. ♥️ I read this article online today and thought maybe it would be encouraging to share: https://www.glennamarshall.com/2021/11/29/what-we-pray-in-the-dark/?fbclid=IwAR26jh6X3DWSh7rDdEcxLFYXEdZ72mec1Ej8ZnCYo30G8gahF5drDLcq1ac Please continue to pray for Joshua and Meredith, even as you finish reading this email. A Praise, A List and Prayer Requests

Posted Nov 24, 2021 by leah kolb

Hi Praying Friends of the Clutterhams! 1. A Praise! Some of the Covid restrictions have been lifted at the hospital, and now Meredith can be with Joshua when he receives his treatment! Today was the first day they were able to experience that. 2. I (Leah) asked Meredith to make an Amazon wish list, with some items that their family/the boys might like for Christmas. This list represents “extra & fun” items their family would be blessed by. I receive many emails from you all (their praying friends and family) about various things, I know they are so loved by so many - this is just a way to give them an extra special blessing of “fun things”, above and beyond what is “needed”. You can order on Amazon anonymously, or you can write a note to the family for them to read. They will be saving any of these presents they may receive for the boys to give them on Christmas morning. This is the link to their wish list (meal train doesn’t allow links, you’ll have to copy and paste): https://www.amazon.com/registries/holiday/31SX6HJ6Z9ADI/guest-view 3. Prayer Requests: - Sleep and pain relief. Joshua is in pain everyday, and his sleep is so disturbed by the pain. Please pray for him to receive relief. - Minimal side effects and maximum results from the immunotherapy/chemotherapy AND pain medication. - Joshua to be productive with the time and energy that he does have, for his work, church and family. - Continued endurance for Meredith as she schools and trains the boys. - Joshua’s scans on Dec. 13 (and subsequent doctor appointment on Dec. 15). The results of these scans will determine their next steps. This is a very difficult season for the Clutterham family, but they are trusting in the Lord, and praising Him for a good treatment day today. ♥️ Thanks so much for praying and giving!! Leah, sewcreativestl@yahoo.com.

November 2021 Scan Results

Posted Nov 4, 2021 by leah kolb

Meredith and Joshua met with their oncology doctors this week. They discussed the results of the scans taken a few days ago, and the results they received aren’t quite what they had hoped. The scans showed that Joshua’s cancer is still progressing. HOWEVER, the doctors have emphasized that other patients in this trial have taken time to respond, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Joshua’s cancer to still respond to the clinical trial!! Joshua and Meredith are content with the doctor’s explanation and trust the Lord with this information. How you can pray for Meredith and Joshua: 1. Pray for Joshua’s pain. He is struggling with daily pain, and it is affecting all areas of his life. 2. Pray for him to have balance in taking the pain medicine, and seeking doctors help for managing the pain. 3. Pray for Meredith as she supports Joshua through this dark season, while continuing to homeschool the boys and manage the household. 4. Pray for the clinical trial to shrink the cancer! He continues to take a daily chemo pill and will receive his next infusion on Nov. 24 Utilize the prayer calendar, posted below, for daily ideas on how to pray with variety each day. How you can practically help: 1. The family has an Instacart subscription where they order groceries and household supplies; Instacart works with a variety of stores. So by gifting an Instacart gift card, you are allowing them to purchase from a variety of stores, depending on their need (and they deliver!!) The email address for an Instacart gift card is: mgclutterham@gmail.com If you send an Instacart e-gift card, if you’d like the family to know who it’s from, please include your name/email address in the “notes/comments” section, as otherwise the recipient isn’t notified who sent it. ♥️ 2. Send notes of scriptural encouragement. Lasting hope and encouragement is found in Christ!! 3. Remember that this cancer battle is a very dark battle that they are facing right now, but they continue to face normal, daily life too. It’s ok to talk to them about normal, regular life things. ♥️ Thank you for praying and for giving!!! ♥️

Looking to November 2021

Posted Oct 31, 2021 by leah kolb

Hello praying friends: Tomorrow (Monday, Nov.1, 2021), Joshua will have three scans. He will also have his third cycle of the clinical trial this Wednesday, Nov. 3. Would you please pray with the Clutterham family?? Specifically for the scans/medication this week, but also for Joshua’s chronic pain. He is in severe pain most of the time, also battling constant fatigue, and it is affecting his daily life. Please pray for his medical team to give direction in this area, even this week. I have attached a prayer calendar, with suggestions to pray over Joshua and his family during each day in November. You can dowload it to your phone as an image, to save digitaly/print. Meredith has added dates for meals and will add needs for childcare as they arise. This is a wonderful way to practically support the family. ♥️ Thank you for praying, may the Lord grant His perfect peace to those that keep their mind on Him. ♥️

October 2021

Posted Oct 10, 2021 by leah kolb

Hi praying and supporting friends!! Here is a brief update/prayer request for you!!     ⁃    Wednesday (10/13) they go in for blood work and cycle #2 of the trial which includes two immunotherapy infusions (ipilimumab and nivolumab) and a daily chemotherapy pill (cabozantinib).     ⁃    We don’t know the affect the clinical trial is having on the cancer. Side effects are minimal compared to the first chemotherapy he endured, but he is extremely fatigued almost all the time and still daily struggles with pain. Ways to Pray:     •    Sleep—it’s so off…days and nights are easily mixed up.     •    That God would allow the trial to work to eradicate the cancer and Joshua would get some real relief from the pain soon.     •    For energy to continue preaching and administrating the online program for Brookes.     •    That their faith would grow and continue to be upheld by God’s hand.     •    That cancer-life would be uneventful until Joshua gets scans on Nov. 1. Rejoice With Them Over the Blessings:     •    Joshua was able to take a short camping trip with Benjamin. This has been a prayer request, that it would happen, for a very long time!     •    Meredith and the other boys took a much needed, week-long fall break with a friend from out of town and are refreshed and ready to start school back up! Practical Ways To Help: - There is a childcare need for Wednesday morning - please visit the calendar to sign up - Visit the calendar page to sign up to bring a meal - Send an e-gift card for Door Dash, Instacart, Walmart, Target, Quick Trip (for gas) or Amazon, Meredith’s email is mgclutterham@gmail.com Thank you for praying and giving!! ♥️

CT/MRI Results

Posted Sep 15, 2021 by leah kolb

Joshua and Meredith met with their doctors today and received results of his latest scans. The scans revealed that his cancer has spread to his bones, which is quite serious. 😭. BUT that doesn’t change his current treatment plan - which is to start the clinical trial with immunotherapy, next Wednesday. While this is highly experimental, it has seen some good restuls with prior patients. Here is a medical journal report that used some of the same treatment Joshua will receive, it shows promising results: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32815894/ Joshua is continuaing to work at home, even during his treatments, and he is preaching at his chuch as he is able. Meredith and the boys are continuing to homeschool. HOW YOU CAN PRAY: 1. For the clinical trial to work miracles in his body!! 2. For the side effects to be minimized. 3. For Joshua to be able to work and minister as he is able. 4. For the boys, as they are effected by the changes in their home, and distressed to see their father not feel well. 5. For Meredith to have supernatural strength to care for her family. 6. Thank God for all the people who have provided meals, childcare and love to show them support during this dark trial! HOW YOU CAN PRACTICALLY HELP: 1. Check the meal train frequently for open meal dates or childcare needs. 2. Send gift cards or e-gift cards for gas/food. (Meredith’s email is mgclutterham@gmail.com) 3. If you’d like to contribute to groceries/household needs - they have an Instacart subscription to get groceries/household items/food delivered, so an Instacart gift card would be wonderful. (same email; mgclutterham@gmail.com). Thank you for praying and giving, the Clutterham’s are so very thankful for all of the love and support! ♥️

Radiation ☢️ Complete

Posted Sep 2, 2021 by leah kolb

Today was Joshua’s last radiation treatment!! He was able to “ring the bell” (in the cancer world this bell is rung when a course of treatment is finished, or major milestone marked, and all the staff applause). Of course ringing the bell doesn’t mean the cancer has gone away - it just is a means to celebrate a milestone in the cancer journey (finishing a course of painful radiation). If you are reading this update tonight, Thursday, Sep. 2, would you please stop and pray for Joshua even now?? The radiation has wrecked havoc on his body and the side effects are at times unbearable. Please pray for him to sleep well, even tonight. Joshua is “resting” for 3 weeks (no radiation or chemo or treatments), then will start the next chemo/immunotherapy on Sep. 22. Around that time they will also have another doctor appointment/scan. PRAY: 1. For the radiation to continue to work in Joshua’s body to shrink the tumors 2. For Joshua to rest and sleep during these weeks of “rest”. 3. For the side effects to be minimal 4. For Meredith as she cares for him and manages the home/boys 5. For the boys as they homeschool and navigate this difficult path PRAISE: 1. Homeschooling is going well! 2. The meals and childcare have been SUCH a blessing to the family!!! 3. The love and support of their family and friends is such a comfort!! The Clutterhams truly feel as if their burden is lightened by all of the love and support. HELP: 1. Open meal dates on the calendar page, bring a meal locally or send a gift card! 2. Childcare will open as they have appointments/needs - check back often or email Meredith. 3. Gifts of grocery gift cards, restarting gift cards, etc. 4. Sending notes/text/messages of Scripture to encourage and strengthen their souls ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Round 2 Tee/Hoodie Update - they are in!! If you ordered shipping - they will be to you shortly! If you ordered STL pick up - they are on Meredith’s porch in a box, PLEASE try to pick up anytime this week, so the items aren’t left on the porch for a long period of time. Please contact Meredith with any questions about STL pick up - mgclutterham@gmail.com If you ordered St. Charles pick up - they are in a box on Leah’s front porch, PLEASE pick them up this week. Please contact Leah with any questions - sewcreativestl@yahoo.com +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie My grace all-sufficient shall be thy supply; The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine" John Newton

Upcoming week, last radiation week

Posted Aug 28, 2021 by leah kolb

This coming week is Joshua’s last week of radiation!!!! After this week finishes (and Joshua will get to ‘ring the bell’ for completing radiation ♥️), he will have a scan in mid September to check results of the radiation. Please Pray!! - 1. For the radiation to WORK! 2. For Joshua to sleep/rest, as the pain is unbearable at times 3. To protect Joshua against discouragement/despair, for him to have a God focused spirit 4. For Meredith as she walks this dark path with her husband!! 5. For the boys as they homeschool, grow and develop How you can help - 1. Check the Meal Train for open dates for meals - you can provide a home cooked meal or a gift card for them to order take out :) 2. Check the Meal Train for childcare needs 3. Send words of encouragement to Meredith/Joshua. A text/message/snail mail note of scripture and “I’m praying for you today” can help lift their spirits and reassure them they are not alone! Scripture is LIVING and BREATHING and we all need to be reminded of it, especially during times of struggle and despair. Thank you all for your love and support, the Clutterham family is so grateful. If you ordered shirts this second round, they have shipped to us and will be here soon, we will distribute them after they arrive.

Childcare (Sept. 15th)

Continued Pain

Posted Aug 18, 2021 by leah kolb

Joshua is 4 treatments into radiation, and it is not going as well as they had hoped. It is causing significant pain, nausea, extreme fatigue and body aches. That being said - they have several prayer requests: 1. Pray for the side effects to be minimized, and for the radiation to work to shrink the tumors. 2. Pray for Joshua to have strength and endurance to work. 3. Pray for them all to be able to enjoy time with Joshua’s parents, sister, nieces and nephews this week. 4. Pray for Joshua to have a spirit that focuses on Christ. For Joshua’s spirit to be uplifted. This is a good article, that shines a little light on suffering. Read it and consider how you can pray for those who are suffering: https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/two-verses-held-me-through-suffering If you have signed up to bring meals - THANK YOU. Meredith shared with me this week how much of a blessing it is, and how it eases some of their heavy burden at this time. They are SO grateful for all of the love and support!! There are more dates open on the meal train. They might have more doctors appointments next week, be on the lookout for an email for childcare requests. Round 2 of tee/hoodie orders has been submitted to the printer, we hope to have them to distribute near the the of August. If you have not yet sent your check/paid for your items - PLEASE do so quickly, so we can finish up the order. Thank you so much for your love and support of the Clutterham family!! ♥️

Radiation Start; New Meal Train Feature

Posted Aug 12, 2021 by leah kolb

Praise the Lord, the insurance issues got settled and Joshua is set to start radiation tomorrow!! He will have 15 sessions (so several weeks), then 2 weeks after the radiation completion, he will start immunotherapy. A new feature that has been added to the Meal Train, is childcare needs. Meredith will post when they have a childcare need (they might have a need for an appointment next Tuesday, Aug. 17 th, if you are subscribed to the Meal Train, you’ll get an update when it’s posted). It would be a blessing if someone is able to come to their house and watch the boys there - but depending on location, Meredith could drop them off at someone’s house. Text Meredith with childcare questions. Pray! 1. For radiation to shrink the tumors! Pray for no side effects from radiation! 2. For Joshua’s pain to be managed. It is still a struggle. 3. For Joshua to be able to rest/sleep, despite the pain. 4. For Joshua as he works from home. 5. For Meredith as she homeschools the boys, manages the household schedule. 6. For the boys to respond well to ever changing circumstances. We are also still collecting orders for tees/hoodies until August 15th - you can order here (be sure to send Meredith money separately - the Google form doesn’t collect money) - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScg5hbDmjCWGCNJdtp-r73WKXz9UOtbloZQbL8jgLUKGkxnbw/viewform?usp=sf_link Thank you for your love and prayers!! ♥️

Scan results, Th. July 29

Posted Jul 29, 2021 by leah kolb

Friends, thank you for praying. Joshua had a CT scan and subsequent MRI, and sadly it does show growth of the tumors in Joshua’s abdominal cavity. There are some that are approaching his spine. The next step is more meetings with various oncologists and doctors, to determine the best next step forward. Please do not contact Meredith with medical questions about their situation. They don’t have any other plan/update, and it can be very overwhelming to try to respond to various individuals. If you’d like to express your concern and love, please send a note of encouragement/scripture/blessing, not asking anything in return. If you’d like to send a gift card or Venmo, here is Meredith’s info: Venmo: Meredith-Clutterham (Last 4 digits of phone number 1118) Email: mgclutterham@gmail.com Meal train has open dates for dinners. If you are close with Meredith and would like to reach out to offer a play date for the boys, please do so. Thank you for praying - please continue to do so and we will update here as we know more. ♥️”

Stop and pray tonight, Wed. 7/28

Posted Jul 28, 2021 by leah kolb

Friends, please lift up Joshua and Meredith in prayer, even right now. They are currently in the ER. As you know, Joshua has been struggling with abdominal pain for quite awhile. Due to a series of events, they were unable to get a “scheduled” scan today, so they had to go to the ER, which means a lot of waiting, and also being exposed to germs in the ER. Joshua’s doctors have some concerns about the abdominal pain, so they are waiting on results from a CT scan. Depending on the scan results, he might need other tests later. Please pray! 1. For endurance - they are both very tired 2. For protection from germs in the ER 3. For Joshua to get the scans he needs, and the results to be interpreted correctly and efficiently 4. For the scan results to give a clear answer to move forward Thank you for lifting them up tonight! Will update again when they know results, it might be a day or 2.

Aaron’s surgery; Continued abdominal pain

Posted Jul 26, 2021 by leah kolb

Update 7-26-21 from Meredith: Aaron had his inguinal hernia repair surgery this morning. He did great! He was so brave and courageous—it helped that Abba came along to cheer him on! Speaking of Abba, Joshua is still dealing with great pain in his abdomen. We are anxious to meet with the oncologist again next Wednesday (August 4th) to discuss how the clinical trial is going and what might be done to decrease pain and improve Joshua’s sleep. We still do not have a date for the CT scan. Please be in prayer for these things: 1.    Sweet Aaron! He wants so badly to move around and be active. Please pray that he would heal quickly and pain would be managed (he’s hurting 😔)     2.    Joshua—again, please pray for relief and sleep. * * * More dates on the train have opened up. Meals are a practical way we can support the family walking a very difficult path. Thank you for giving and praying!!

Clinical Trial Started

Posted Jul 7, 2021 by leah kolb

Joshua and Meredith went in today to begin the clinical trial that we pray will be used by God to eradicate cancer from Joshua’s body. The researchers are testing to see if an oral chemotherapy is as effective as the oral chemotherapy PLUS immunotherapy. They randomly selected Joshua to receive the oral chemotherapy track of the trial. At first, they were disappointed to hear this, but after meeting with his oncologist, they were more encouraged that this could actually be an effective approach with less side effects. Joshua will take one pill each day for 28 days and then meet with the doctor again. We believe he should have a CT scan in 6-8 weeks to access effectiveness of the experimental drug. They are hopeful and ask you to pray for the following as we continue to fight together: 1. Continued abdominal pain relief. 2. Minimal side effects and maximum benefits from the oral chemotherapy. 3. Joshua’s preparation for the Fall Term at Brookes Bible College and continued faithfulness to Clayton Community Church. 4. Meredith and the boys as they prep for a new homeschool year and make the most of summer vacation while navigating new changes and helping Abba fight cancer! Thank you faithful friends for praying and all the ways you’ve served and loved so well! The Meal Train is still in use, meals are a way we can take some daily stress away from the family - thank you to all you who have participated/are participating! If you ordered a t-shirt/hoodie, we should have them by the end of this month then will distribute them to you. Thank you for your orders!! ♥️

Getting Into A Clinical Trial

Posted Jun 30, 2021 by leah kolb

Thank you for praying! They have received some results and believe the abdominal pain is related to a side effect of the medications, it should be able to be resolved with other medications. ☺️ Other updates and how you can pray for the upcoming clinical trial: 1. Praise the Lord the clinical trial is scheduled to start next week, please pray for everything to be in order and proceed on July 7th. 2 Pray for the new medicine to work for the abdominal pain and for the pain to subside. 3. Pray for the clinical trial process - as the selection for which exactly clinical trial he will participate in is “out of our hands”. Pray for the Lord’s will to be done, for Joshua to be in the clinical trial he needs!! 4. Pray for Meredith and the boys as they navigate ever changing circumstances. We are still collecting orders for tees/hoodies, info here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfyk8sdqMVKSMtkwVobTY72JOY4K6Mw5at7kq7pcghRZzNPww/viewform?usp=sf_link Thank you so much for praying!! ♥️

Continued abdominal pain, ER visit and testing

Posted Jun 29, 2021 by leah kolb

Hi praying friends - Joshua has continued to have severe abdominal pain since his discharge from the hospital last week. At the recommendation of his doctor he returned to the ER today and is currently awaiting tests/test results. Would you please pray: 1. CLEAR answers 2. Tests to show no major problems 3. Pain to be managed/resolved 4. For Meredith and Joshua to continue to trust the Lord during this difficult time. 5. For the children to have a peaceful spirit, and for them to bear the stress well of constantly changing circumstances. “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, BEARING WITH ONE ANOTHER IN LOVE, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:1-4, 6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ To “bear” is to support and uphold. Thank you for upholding the Clutterhams in prayer to our Lord ♥️

Out of Hospital and Trial Appt. Update

Posted Jun 23, 2021 by leah kolb

Below is an update from Meredith: “Dear prayer warriors, What a week already! As you know from the previous update, Joshua was admitted to the hospital on Sunday morning for excruciating abdominal pain. Over the course of a few days, he had many tests and scans to see what was causing the pain. Unfortunately, there was not a definitive diagnosis, only possible colitis and/or intestinal infection. While there, they were able to manage the pain and get him started on antibiotics. This evening, he was able to come home and has a plan for pain management. We are so grateful! Because of this hospital stay and possible infection, he was unable to participate in the screening for the clinical trial this morning. They have pushed it to next week, Wednesday, June 30th. This was pretty disappointing, but we are trusting that God really has a good purpose in allowing this road block. If you would join us in praying for some specific things, we would be so thankful: • Please pray that whatever this is, whether it be colitis, an infection, or something else, it would not affect his eligibility to participate in the clinical trial. • A smooth transition from hospital to home—that Joshua would get good sleep and the pain would be managed overnight. • Pray for No more cancer! Thank you again for your prayers and support!” As you can imagine, this week (and this whole journey!) is super stressful on the boys and Meredith. Please continue to pray that the Lord would sustain them. ♥️ Thank you all for the meals and gift cards and prayers offered up for the Clutterhams! ♥️

Joshua has been having severe abdominal pain for 7 days, he's been in communication with his doctors and had 1 ER visit this week. He returned to the hospital today with continued pain, and they admitted him to the hospital for evaluation and management of the pain. It is possibly a side effect of medications, but doctors are evaluating the situation. The meal train has been updated with dates for this week and next, to practically support them during this time. Please sign up to bring a meal if you are able. We are doing a t-shirt/hoodie fundraiser to support the Clutterhams!! 100% of profits will go to their family. CT Scan results and what’s next...

Posted Jun 9, 2021 by Meredith Clutterham

Hi friends—Joshua and I met with the oncologist team this morning to follow up on his CT scan from yesterday. The results of the scan show that the most recent cycles of chemotherapy were not effective to halt the growth of the tumors, but instead they found some growth. Because of this, they recommended a change of treatment approach. Joshua’s eligibility for a clinical trial is now being evaluated. If confirmed, he would start the new treatment on June 30th. While it was disappointing to receive this type of news today, we are also rejoicing that Joshua will not need to continue on the very harsh regimen that he has had to endure over the last 4 months (the regimen of the trial may not have as many and as harsh side effects—and the infusions would be less frequent). With that, would you please continue to fervently pray: * For complete healing * That if God would see fit to use this clinical study to heal Joshua, that he would be eligible to participate in the trial. (He has a screening on June 23rd and should know around that time if he is eligible.) * For our handling of work and family responsibilities through this trial. * Please pray for our boys to receive all the benefits that God brings through trials and protected from burdens they are not intended to bear. With this update, it looks like we’ll have a few weeks break from chemotherapy and may not need the meal support next week. If you’re scheduled to bring a meal next week, but would like to wait until we know our need better, please feel free to change your dates! We are so incredibly grateful for all the support, love, meals, gifts, and prayers you have extended to us! Your friendships have been such a blessing and eased our burdens greatly! Thank you so very much! Love, Meredith and Joshua

Cycle 4 Completed; Next Scan Planned

Posted May 30, 2021 by leah kolb

Below is an update from Meredith: “Dear friends, Thank you for your continued prayers! As cancer feels like such a long-haul trial, we are so grateful for you and your steadfast prayers as we wait, pray, and beg the Lord for mercy. Just wanted to give a little update from treatment week #4 and a couple prayer requests. As usual, it was tough with all the side effects, but we were blessed with visits from family and friends and that lifted our spirits! As the week goes on, it gets harder and harder, but the visits help us make it to the end with hope! A few prayer requests: • please pray for Joshua’s sleep. The nights are hard as the side effects continue. His body needs good rest. • Usually, the second week, Joshua experiences severe bone pain from a medicine that stimulates the production of white blood cells. Please pray that that pain would be minimal. • Please pray these next two recovery weeks would be restorative to prepare him for the next two cycles (should he need them—we’ll know June 9th) • Please pray for creativity for me (Meredith) as I continue homeschooling but also with the intention of a fun summer for the boys. • Joshua’s next scan is Tuesday, June 8th. We are praying for no evidence of disease! A miracle! Please pray to that end with us. Our God is good and merciful! We’ll meet with the Dr. on June 9th to receive and discuss the results. Your visits, meals, gifts, and prayers have been used to show us the love of Christ in a real and tangible way over the last 6 months. We are humbled and grateful for you all! Thank you for walking this road with us!” * * * * * * * The meal train has dates open if you’d like to provide a meal - thank you!!

Cycle #3 - Side Effects - How You Can Help

Posted May 5, 2021 by leah kolb

Hi Friends! Joshua is in the middle of cycle #3 of chemo, and he is experiencing a lot of side effects. His GI system, skin system, and fluid system are all affected by the chemo. How you can pray: - for the side effects to be minimized/manageable - restorative rest so his body can heal - endurance to get through these next 3 days If you have never used scripture to pray over a person, it can be very emboldening to use God's Word to pray over God's people. Example: Ps. 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. Example prayer: "Lord, please help Joshua to cast his burdens on You. Lord please help Joshua to rest in Your promise that You can sustain him. Lord please help Joshua to not be moved away from a place of trust in You." Other ways that you can practically support the Clutterham as they walk this difficult path: - Sign up to bring a meal - If you are close with Meredith, reach out to her and ask how you can support her in the care of the boys (childcare, play dates, etc.) - Give a gift card or Venmo is : @Meredith-Clutterham Thank you for praying and giving!!

Scan/appt update: meal dates added

Posted Apr 28, 2021 by leah kolb

From Meredith: “Dear friends, Today we got some good news from our oncology team! The chemotherapy treatments that Joshua has been doing appear to be effective at stopping the spread and even shrinking the existing tumors! The tumors shrunk just slightly, but the oncology team wanted to emphasize, at this time, that the trajectory is what matters most (ie they found no new tumors and the tumors that they did know about are each a tad smaller). With this good news, also comes the hard news that they would like for us to continue with the chemotherapy treatments, which have been really difficult for Joshua. However, he was encouraged that he’ll be able to go through the treatments knowing that it’s working. Please pray for our family as we venture into these next two cycles (starting Monday, May 3). Please pray for the chemo to kill all the cancer cells! Please pray for strength and endurance while Joshua balances all his responsibilities during treatment and recovery. Please also pray for Meredith as she seeks to balance homeschooling, house keeping, and caring for Joshua and the boys 💙 We know that God is with us and your prayers are being effective!! So grateful for you!” * * * * Dates are added for meals! Here are some of their favorite restaurants: Chick Fil A Panera Taco Club Dewey’s Panda Express Chipotle McDonalds Burger King Texas Roadhouse Chili’s Red Robin Bandanas Pasta House Cracker Barrell Garbanzos Chinese buffets If you are not local (or are and don’t like to cook ☺️), and would like to do more of a ‘home cooked’ meal, here are some local meal prep places: https://pureplatesstl.com/ https://www.freshnlean.com/locations/st-louis-meal-delivery/ https://www.timefordinner.com/ If you would like to donate directly to Joshua and Meredith, their Venmo is : @Meredith-Clutterham Or you may email me (Leah Kolb: sewcreativestl@yahoo.com) for their physical address to mail a check. These treatment weeks have been hard both physically and mentally. • finally, please pray that whatever comes of this week, we will gratefully receive from God’s hand, knowing that He is good and kind to his children! We are so thankful for His care toward us through your generous meals, financial gifts, and messages of encouragement. 💙”

Hi friends...Joshua and Meredith met with Joshua’s oncologist today and have a quick update: The most recent CT scan made more evident that the cancer cells spread beyond the areas of his surgeries, so that they want to begin a systemic treatment method (chemo). This is not the news we were hoping for, but we trust that God knows what He’s doing in Joshua’s body. Joshua will begin an aggressive dose of a combination of 2 chemotherapies on Monday morning (for 5 days, 9hrs a day; 1 week on, 2 weeks off, 1 week on, then a scan). He will get a port tomorrow and an echo on Friday. This oncologist is in high gear. The goal they’re shooting for is tumor shrinkage or at least stalling the growth. Please continue to pray for healing, wisdom to endure this trial, and lots of grace for the days ahead. Many of you provided yummy meals for the Clutterhams and they were beyond blessed by your kindness and generosity. If you would like to provide another meal in the coming weeks, the dates of Joshua’s chemotherapy have been added to the train. Thank you for continuing to pray!

Update from Joshua and Meredith

Posted Jan 3, 2021 by Meredith Clutterham

Hi friends, in our last update, we shared that Joshua would have a biopsy on an enlarged lymph node that was spotted during his CT scan in late September. Although this procedure was intended to rule out any concerns, we (along with the doctors) were surprised to learn that the same cancerous cells found in the earlier removed tumor had indeed spread to this lymph node, and again raised the seriousness of his condition. On January 15th, Joshua will undergo an invasive surgery to remove this lymph node and any others that can be detected. We anticipate that the recovery from this surgery will be more difficult than the earlier surgery performed in October. When Joshua has healed from the surgery, he will undergo radiation therapy to hopefully eliminate any cancer cells that were unable to be removed in the surgery. Your notes and meals have been such a blessing through this journey! We've added some new dates surrounding the surgery to the meal calendar for those who would like to support in that way. Thank you again!

Update from Joshua

Posted Nov 21, 2020 by leah kolb

“I wanted to pause and give you an update on what we’ve learned recently: · The great news is that my mid-October PET scan showed no activity of cancer in my body after the surgery to remove the tumor! My doctors are keeping us sober-minded even with this good news by helping us to see that this type of cancer is aggressive and is prone to return. We are praying that God continues to teach us through this experience and that he might keep the cancer from returning. · A cancer research center in New York (Memorial Sloan-Kettering) issued a final pathology/diagnosis of the tumor: “Epithelioid Sarcoma, Proximal-type” a very rare soft-tissue cancer. To give you an idea of how rare, 1% of all cancers are soft-tissue cancers (sarcomas), and only 1% of those soft-tissue cancers are this type. The rarity of this diagnosis is helping to remind us that God is up to something special in my life, and in the life of my family and church. He has already been working such good fruit from this trial. · Because of how rare the cancer type is, my doctors have transferred us to the Siteman Cancer Center—the cancer research wing of Washington University for specialized care. The good news is that this cancer center is still only 20 minutes from our house and the physician research team I’m working with exclusively studies and treats sarcomas. We are amazed at God’s providential work to move us here to avail us of such human expertise. · We have learned that due to the rare nature of the cancer that no effective chemotherapy or radiation treatments have been developed to date for it. The only approach that has been shown to increase survivability is surgery. Again, in my case, this is the very thing they have done and that surgery was very successful! Praise the LORD! · In order to have the best chance to operate early, I will be having regular CT and/or PET scans every three months for the next few years. What is happening next: · Through all of this, there has been one detail that has not been resolved—an enlarged lymph node near the area of the tumor. This lymph node showed no activity for cancer in the mid-October PET scan but they are still concerned. So, I will next be having a biopsy of that lymph node on December 7th, 2020 and receive the results on the 9th · If that biopsy settles the doctor’s suspicions, I will move on to the scan schedule. Thank you all again for your very kind notes and prayers! They have been so comforting and encouraging to us these past weeks.”
