Meal Train for

Hildeman Family

About this Meal Train

Friends and Family, as most of you know our world got rocked on March 11th as our family rushed together to support Jerry as we learned about his cancerous brain tumor. Jerry is a fighter and with his faith will continue to fight the good fight. Besides being a Police Lt., Jerry is also known for being a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He has always taken care of everyone else and now it’s our turn to take care of him. No one can tell his story better than Jerry himself, so here are his own words from Monday March 15th... To help answer a lot of reoccurring questions I figured I’d make this recap post. Two weeks ago I began having headaches that just continued then started impacting my speech in a subtle way. Then on Thursday 3-11-21 the left side of my face starter sagging. I knew something wasn’t right but checked the dental side and my eye pressures before going to my primary care doctor. I credit Stacey at citrus valley medical center in Corona for giving me the bump to move fast. I went to the ER with the help of my b beautiful daughter Hailee and my sister Evie came to be by her side. It was at Corona ER that I had the first CT scan of my brain that found the golf ball sized tumor on the right temporal area of my brain. The ER doc dropped the bomb on me and told me. Then asked if I had somewhere I planned to go. That was very unexpected as I didn’t have a neurosurgeon in my contacts nor had I researched my options. With the greatest of luck I selected to be taken to ST Joesph in Orange. Which is affiliated with ST Jude here in Fullerton. The doctor I saw at St Joesph explained the situation to me, my bride Alyssa and our brother Donny. For bad news it was about as optimistic as we could get. A full body ct scn cleared other sources so it appears at this time it’s the one in my brain and done. This mass will be removed this morning. I go into surgery at 1030 for about 2-3 hours. Then ICU for at least 24-hours. With the hand of God I’m hoping to be recovering in my own home by Thursday or Friday but won’t know right away could be here for another week if necessary for some forms of PT to makesure I’m able to function at home first. Then after that I’ll get the pathology report and chemo/ radiation plan for the next several months. This is all a moving target still until after surgery and exact ID of what kind of cancer it is. Here’s what I do know, The response I have had from family, friends, coworkers, retirees and many others I do not even personally know has been the most humbling thing for me in my life. People really do rally and pull together and show their faith openly when it comes to tough times and we should consider doing this for one another more frequently. Myself included. Thank you everybody who has reached out one way or another and the kindness that has been shown to my family. I make a final promise that I’ll be back for sure because I have a duty to walk my precious daughters down the aisle on their wedding day and I fully intend to do just that. Hang in there girls. God is good and he has me in the palm of his hands. Thanks for being strong alyssa - you are an amazing woman and gift from God. Prov 31:10-31 is my woman. My faith has been tested a bit in this but I’m more confident than ever he will see me through this. Cody & Nicole please keep my grandkids giggling so I have fun pics to wake up to. Papa needs more play Time with those beautiful grandkids of mine. Lastly - Alyssa will post updates here so everybody can get the same message and when I’m available I’ll give an update as well. Thank you again everybody who has sent a kind word, a prayer and the texts. It has helped tremendously through the isolated feeling of being admitted during COVID protocols. Luckily my doctor and the timing of the tier change has given my family some acces which has been a tremendous morale boost. Thank you everybody. Ps - all typos courtesy of a tumor in my head affecting my motor skills. 😉
